I was lucky to find 3 tercels for parts and they were up for parting to africa as i went there. Hopefully ill be able to find some random car left. I dont want to part out a in good condition car just for the engine. Even if i find a car they might want too much money for it to be worth buying it for the engine. People are relizing they are rare over here.

Even the wrecking yards have no old corollas or engines for them. I have a hard time finding even the most common items at times.
Let's hope that you will find one. I have understood from Tercel facebook forum that 4A-FE and 4A-F have same blocks. So you could look also them.

If you have no luck, I can try to help you. We have still some 4A parts left. It was fairly uncommon engine in 84-87 Corollas, because most ones were either with 2A or with 2E engines. Some hobbyists call 4A 84-87 Corolla as a "big block" Corolla for that reason. :D But we do have still left some Carina II, which have 95% of the time 4A.

I wonder if anyone has tried to make a 7a with a tercel 3a head on a 7afe engine (deleting the fuel injection) as 7afe blocks seem to be plentiful. I imagine getting the correct size timing belt would be hard though

I have a 4a 87 corolla and a 4af i think in my 1988 corolla with fuel injection. I dont want to part any of them out since they care rare cars over here now. The 88 was according to the previous owner 1 of 40 or so left in sweden a few years ago when he looked into it..he was a old rally car driver and raced corollas in the 80s. Cool dude. He used to part out tercels and such..said he emptied his barn out a decade or so ago and threw out several lorry loads of parts away! He had a mint corolla 4wd and had planned to restore this one but quit due to disease. Hes in his late 80s now. He had owned 20 or so real rally cars in his younger years. Several were from well known swedish rally drivers.

ive done it, and so has i think jon woods. mine was an absolute dog, but thats because i didnt have the corrected timing sprocket. theres an adjustable 4ac cam gear you can get now to correct the timing. or, if you know someone with a broach machine, and can get it lined up correctly, you can rebroach the crank gear.

timing belt is from a porsche 944

What changes would you need to do to fit a 3A head to a 7afe? Do you need to do any flywheel changes etc?

I got my drill set and removed the 103 jet i had in my carb for the tercel. I used different drills to determin the size and it was on the loose side of 1mm. A 1.1 mm wouldnt fit and a 1.08 didnt fit either. I drilled it out to 1.08 mm as its the closest one i had so im guessing its a 108 jet size? The car ran much better with the drilled out jet. Before i had a stumble whenever i would put it into 2nd gear as i went out from my yard and now it ran better. Acceleration was much improved when driving on the road. I could feel the difference. Nice! =) Also I have timing at 11-12degrees as I did this.
