swapping dash clusters between 83-84s & 85-87s

Post by dlb »

Does any one have any experience with swapping dash clusters between the 3.73 and 4.11 cars? There is a cluster from a 4.11 car that I am looking at buying to put into my 83 eventually but I wonder if this makes the speedo inaccurate, and how much so.

David,

I would expect no issues. The speedo “gear” is down near the tranny.

I have done it, I have the later type SR5 cluster in my '84, speedo reads exactly the same. in fact with the slightly larger rolling dia tires (on 14" rims w/195/65 tires) the speedo is more accurate than with the skinny stock tires.
