front door stuck closed and locked

Post by dlb »

Today while doing some general cleanup on the new 83, I discovered that the front passenger door is closed and locked, and I'm unable to unlock it both using the button and the key. Both methods move the button up just slightly, like an 1/8", but then it feels like something physically bumps into something else and it won't go any further. I tried to remove the inner door panel with the door closed and got the bottom free but can't get it out from behind the B-pillar, or where the dash sticks out. Any suggestions?

Got it open. I found this old thread:

viewtopic.php?t=4608&hilit=door+locked+closed#top

and used xirdneh's advice. I rolled the window down and removed the inner window lip thing from the top of the interior door panel. I looked down at the latch & lock mechanism and saw something that looked like it could be pressed down so I used a metal ruler to do just that, and that was it. Got the door open and now the lock seems to work fine. Yahoo mountain dew.

Ps, the "bang on the door with your fist" thing did not work for me. Too bad, that would have been pretty sweet.

Cool
Love those Tercell 4x4 wagons but they sure suffer from road noise.

The Rusty Frog had this happen a couple of weeks ago. The lock was fine, but the door “handle” was sticking, creating the problem.
