4AGE connecting rods in a 4AC

Post by Cadendoo22 »

After my 3AC spun a bearing I decided it was a good time for a 4AC swap. Turns out the motor I bought had also spun a bearing. So after talking to the junkyard about warranties and such ive decided to rebuild the 4A. The problem is that the last piece I need is connecting rods, all 4 to be exact. Since i cant find anything for sale online, my question is, can I use the connecting rods from a 4AGE in my 4AC.

3ac yes if its from a later 3a, 4age no. 4age has a bigger floating small end bearing whereas the 3ac/4ac is a press fit

you might be able to make them work with the help of a machine shop, but there were some differences. as I recall the 4age used forged rods, so those are stronger and better than the 3a/4a rods. but you will also have to check the length and the small and big end dia. to verify. the 3a and 4a rods are the same as I recall, cast iron, both small and large end are the same. the early ('82-83?) 3a rods have different size large end as I recall. but the later ones are the same. best bet is to get them side by side and take a micrometer or caliper to them and check everything.
