Rear axle, drivers side. '84

Post by aibuckley »

Good evening. Just picked up an '84 that apparently lost a rear wheel bearing and the axle slid out and bent. I'm now on the hunt for the axle and bearing. Any one have a used axle they'd be willing to part with? I'm in Northern Nevada btw.

Thanks

I have one. I'm in Michigan. Would be expensive to ship. But it's an option if you're interested.

Just an FYI- I'm pretty sure the right and left rear axle shafts are the same.
if it aint there, there's a good chance it won't break!

Not compatible on the rear. Front would be the same.

as I recall, I seem to remember the right and left axle shafts in the rear were different lengths. they look the same, but they are like 3/4" different length. they also have the pressed on wheel bearing with the grease shield, there is a left and right metal grease shield that must go on the correct side. so even if they are the same length, you would have to press off the collar and wheel bearing, and than swap out the metal grease shield that is up against the back of the wheel flange.

if the bearing is good on the replacement axle you can just install it as you get it, assuming it has the correct side grease shield. if the bearing is bad, best have a shop press off the old bearing and install a new one (with the correct grease shield that goes on first).

good luck.
