Offered a matching wagon to Corolla AE80-82 hatchback sedans and notchback sedans and to Sprinter AE80-82 hatchback sedans and notchback sedans

- General Note Not Specifically For Toyota: And all foreign car companies in US could be made to have consistent VIN #'s and Manufacturing Dates (the same manufacturing year as the model year that was assigned in the VIN # assigned to the vehicle) before shipped out to the dealership where it was originally sold)
Whoever assigned VIN #'s to all original commercially imported foreign cars in US or Canada could assume criminal responsibility for assigning a VIN # with the wrong model year on the car

Made a notchback sedan model of the RV-5 CONCEPT CAR and made a RHD version of both - would be consistent with where would have been sold

Made a model specific accessories catalog for the Canadian and US markets offering engine performance parts, suspension parts and more as well as EURO-OCEANIAN gearing for Z52F and Z54F and even A55F and a homegrown A53F one before that

Maybe UK and NZ could have offered a market-specific brochure rather than a general area LHD brochure with UK specs folder or NZ specs single-sheet brochure

Rolled out either a Corolla II Wagon or Corsa Wagon as a 2WD version of the Carib:
Corolla 2: E-AL21G-KWKNS or E-AL21G-KWKES
Corsa: E-AL21G-LWFNS or E-AL21G-LWFES etc.
(update to #4)

Marked US, CA, NZ, and AU models of DLX 2WD and 4WD as GL, GX, AV-I or VL aka 4th digit after dash in Model # as N rather than D to indicate of same lineup as GL, VL, GX and AV-I.

Continued usage of RV-5 4WD's gullwing rear third quarter window for Tercel wagons and Carib wagons and any other wagon of same chassis Toyota would have made as optional equipment for models with a stationary vertical rhombus rear third quarter window as well as RV-5's blackened amber and red tail lense combo light as optional

Continued usage of RV-5's clear corner lenses with amber stripe from 1981-1987 so that 2wd wagons could have etc

Made a 1982-1986 clear corner lense the same size as US, CA, NZ, NL and JP ones but with amber stripe also and maybe a green lense as well as a purple one

Funded DOWNEY OFF-ROAD MFG., KAMI TYRE, ENKEI, etc. to stay companies and keep making suspension and dress-up, performance and other parts for the TERCEL 4WD WAGON and SPRINTER CARIB in addition to a new addition of TERCEL 4WD NOTCHBACK and CORSA 4WD NOTCHBACK SEDAN parts of the same as wagons plus lift kits, 4WD conversion kits and more for 1982-1984 TERCEL 2WD and 1982-1984 CORSA 2WD SEDANS, etc.

Etc.

Not sure of the point of this post, but a few things...
Had Power Windows, Power Door Locks and more power options for all worldwide models including Carib's optional power mirrors

Offered power windows, power door locks and similar power options in at least US and Canada, offered cruise control in Japan and power mirrors in US and Canada making LHD/RHD conversions much easier than rigging up new parts to accommodate certain car features and for power mirrors a mirror defogger/defroster as well

For markets with cup holders, offered rear ones as well
If you wanted any of this at the time, you would have bought a different car. The tercel was toyotas economy car. They aren't going to include all the bells and whistles on the economy car when they could have done it on something better, such as the cressida and camry.
4WD AND 4-DOOR MODEL OF COROLLA 2
163-165HP 3A-ELU ENGINE WITH MEGA TORQUE AND TURBO AND EVEN TWIN-CAM OPTION such as for a 4AGE or similar

Made 4A, 4AC/U, (Choice of normal straight head or AE86 curvy head), 4AELU, 1S, 1AC, 4AGEC/U, 3SGTE and more engine options for car

Made hybrid engines 7AC/U, 7AGEC/U, 7AGZEC/U and 7AGTEC/U engines themselves as other engine options for car

Used AL10-AL12's external ignition coil rather than integrated one on all AL20-25 Tercels, Corsas, Corolla II's, and Caribs

Had TRD make exhaust headers, A turbocharger and intercooler, a PFI fuel injection intake manifold, exhaust system, sidedraft carbs and downdraft and sidedraft EFI and much more for the TERCEL 4WD's 3A-C and 3A engines, ski stripes for the car, lift springs for the car and raised shocks and struts, made a center diff for the car for easy AWD conversion, offered engine rebuilding services with porting and polishing and more to increase 62HP to at least 71-170HP

Again, economy car. If toyota intended it to be a sports car, we probably wouldnt have ever gotten a 4wd wagon. Nothing they had at the time had that much horsepower, nor did any of their motors had "mega torque". We never got the 1s or 2s, and the 7a didnt get released till '90 in australia. We did get the 1A, and it did come in 1st gen tercels. Not sure why you would want one though--they shared the same problems as the 3a, and had issues with oil drainage from the head.

Why do you want an external coil? The states was lucky to get magnetic pickup ones in the first gens, but the rest of the world got points. I prefer the internal coil style. Less wires to deal with.

Boy you must sure like dreaming...
Mounted engine the same way as on Corolla AE80-82 or done as option
While I agree it would have made things a lot easier, the tercel was their first fwd platform, and they had reasons to mount it longitudinally. It greatly reduced torque steer, and the weight distribution helped make the car handle better. There's an article someone wrote out there that goes over it pretty well.

No. I am not. I am on here because I like these Tercel cars, and Toyota’s in general. I like you’re thread of dreams. It would’ve been nice if the Tercel’s were made beefier, with more options/ aftermarket support. They’re great cars but some parts were economized on (it was their economy model). I dream of selectable locking front and rear differentials, a true low range gearbox...Sweet dreams...

lots of great ideas here, but there were virtually no aftermarket performance suppliers for the Tercel, and much if these would have had too small a market for Toyota to even consider. they are one of the largest car manufactures in the world, it cost them literally billions to bring a new model to market, and I read somewhere the management did not want to "position" the tercel as a performance car. This btw is why most cool "concept" vehicles never make it into production. I think we were lucky to get the Tercel4wd at all, it was originally designed not as an off road performer, but as a car for bird watching according toyota internal documentations.

That being said, there were a number of available components from other models that could have been fitted to the Tercel4wd with minimal tooling changes, these are my picks:

4age engine, LSD rear axle with 4 wheel larger disk brakes, perhaps a suspension up grade using larger springs and shocks from other models. A leather seat option and a nicer interior would also be welcome as well.

Mattel, how does the early Tercel engine installation reduce torque steer?

I have always understood torque steer to be a function of the steering geometry relative to the FWD, I do not see how the engine position would affect that. I drove many of the early imported FWD cars that had noticeable torque steer, all were transverse engine installation (early 1970's honda civic and VW Rabbit for example), I did not like those FWD cars because of heavy torque steer. If you accelerated going around a corner the car wanted to pull straight, trying to pull the steering wheel of your hands. Unless you mean something else, I do not see how the Tercel engine installation would change that. none of the modern FWD cars have this problem to any great extent, and all use the transverse engine installation.

Weight distribution might be improved perhaps, still kind of tall (high CG). Consider that at the time Toyota had no cars with a transverse engine installation. I think they were staying with what they had and creating a drive train around their engine.

Torque steer is caused by different length left and right front drive axles- the greater the difference, the more prevalent the condition. Our cars' axle lengths are much closer L&R than most early transverse engine vehicles. Later transverse vehicles added a support bearing ass'y to the longer axle to reduce or eliminate the torque steer. Also, our cars don't have a whole lot of power...
