I'm not positive but IIRC a few people here have found new tanks but had lots of trouble with them not filling properly. Might want to do a search on that here before spending too much time tracking one down.

Ok today is a new day folks!

Tank one- rotten unuseable , 5lbs of crap in the bottom.
Tank two- has sediment but might clean up? It needs a fuel pick tube and a sender at least!

Any recommendations for DYI tank cleaners please advise.

Also the smell in the shop has wafted past the CEO of homested! This new found project is wearing thin on Her….might be time for a night out! LOL.

Thanks again for the help and recommendations.

Bob,

First, definitely take your lady out for dinner and/or whatever she likes. Second, a new sending unit is available out of Taiwan and has favorable reports thus far. As for the "pick up" tubing, I don't know of anything new available. I just did mine and ended up removing some of the piping above the tank and replaced with rubber hose, your "top" tubes look pretty good. My "lower" tubes (in the tank), looked much better than yours. I actually reused the screen filter and all, no rust on my pick up tubes.

Ok I made caps from my old sending units and such. Filled with 5lbs of nuts and bolts, acetone and a few other chemicals. I’m strapping it to my SxS and going a few miles trail riding!

Is the fuel filter in the tank available?

I took sweetheart to a VW meeting at the local bar and eatery in her VW Thing! She’s good now.

Back to the shop!

Not sure what you mean by this. The fuel filter on these cars is a little thing near the brake booster, costs like $8 and attaches to two hoses with clamps. Nice and cheap and easy.

*edit* ahhh now I see what you meant.

Sorry, no part number.

However, I do have a heater core from a 1985 4WD SR5 wagon that had < 52,000 miles. It has been off vehicle and box-stored since 1995. Located in eastern Pennsylvania.

Nice work with the restore, by the way. :)
