Looking to buy a 4WD in good working condition

This forum is for cars that run, or at least are close to running. This isn't for parting out complete cars.

lol, the dummy in the backseat of the '20 Corolla looks like it still might have some serious whiplash and concussion. I'm not up on new cars at all, do any have airbags mounted in the back of the front seats for the rear passengers? I imagine there must be some, since super safe vehicles probably have their own market of hyper-concerned drivers.

btw, sorry to the OP. This thread has gotten way derailed.

ha! those are awesome. can those be used to lift a Tercel from stock ride height to a lifted position? Where do they come from? do they cost much?

I was thinking to cobble something together to go from road ride height to a stream crossing height.

They lifted the car from near scraping the floor to about a 2 inches over stock ride height. I got them on eBay for damn near 1000 bucks just for the front.

I do not! :( I sold it back in may I believe to a young dude out in Las Cruces, New Mexico. I had told him about the forum but I don't think he's ever registered. I've been around ever since, I'm not sure I'll ever leave this forum. Still contemplating finding another wagon after I finish up with my rsx. :D

Good to hear, loved your work, but prefer off-roading. I’ve got iseas for my ultimate Terc build, but only time will tell.

so perhaps 6"+ total travel, that price though....I will have to wait until a car shows up at picknpull with those on them. that is where I shop for all my performance parts.

I just looked at those crash test videos. the earlier generation of tercel is a different car than ours, done to a different standard of safety. the second gen Tercel like the T4wd has a collapsible steering column, and better crush resistance, and more distance from the seats to the dash plus more head room. and as I pointed out, a better seat belt system would additionally add to safety.

again, it is not that airbags do not work, I think there are better ways to as good as, or even higher level of safety in a Tercel4wd.

Apologies to the OP, though I did message you about a wagon for sale.

Nobody has published an easily found video of a Tercel wagon crash test.

This 1981 Cressedia was designed concurrently with the AL25. As a larger, more premium vehicle in the day, one can assume it would perform better than an AL25.

this is an interesting crash test, unlike the first gen Tercel, you can see the steering wheel does not get pushed back into the driver in the crash, also the passenger compartment does not buckle and distort as much.

one thing I noticed is on the underside view, the one piece driveshaft pushes back the diff into the fuel tank. The T4wd use a two piece drive shaft that I am sure would not do that. I do not know when the newer federal safety improvements were effective but from 1981 model year to the 1983 model year there may have been additional improvements. though you can certainly see how the cresseda protects the passengers better than the first gen Tercel.

There have been a number of forum members over the years who were in horrific accidents in their Tercel4wd that totaled their cars. Including one multiple roll over accident as I recall. This is certainly not a survey, but so far everyone who was in the Tercel4wd was not seriously injured. typically the Tercel will sacrifice itself, crushing and decelerating the impact loads transmitted to the occupants. Not something that would occur in earlier generation of cars. I think the Tercel4wd was actually a bit more advanced when it comes to crash protection that other cars at the time.
