So I wanted to Share my 84 4wd Tercel project with a 4age swap. I purchased this a year ago and got started right away with a complete body makeover. Removed rust and did some paneling and bondo and lastly, paint.

The next step was to redo the suspension and give it the lift! I end up getting rear coils from a 90s pathfinder and got shocks from a 89 thunderbird and switch out the bottom bushings on that to fit the Tercel. The front was a bit more tricky and to add some travel I got struts from a 4wd corolla and retrofitted them to the Tercel hub and towers. Then I created cutting board body lift spacers and added 2 inches of body lift. Now the Tercel sits about 2.5 inches higher without considering the tire setup.

After that I installed 14 inch steelie style off-road rims with an 3 inch back space wrapped with ST rated aggressive tread tires sized at 205/74/14 which works great for off-roading but not so great driving highway.
New pads and rotors were installed in the front before my hiatus of doing car project related things.
Few months later the headgasket blew on the 3AC and oil was spewing from all ends.
That's when I decided to commit to swapping a 4age into the car...
I end up purchasing a 1989 Corolla GTS twin CAM parts car which had the 4age red top.

Got the Engine cleaned up right away as so:

Then we moved and everything was put on hold...
So once I was ready to get started on rebuilding the engine I sent the head in first to get basically everything redone to make basically a brand new head.

very nice job. your progress is actually pretty good. I have one I want to do the 4age swap on, and most parts I need, that has been sitting in my garage for 5+ years. lots of details to fiddle with, despite the major mounting points and the bell housing bolts right up.

What was required for the swap in terms of engine mounts and the transmission?

the 4ac, the 4age, and the 4afe all have the same "hard point" bolt up as the 3ac. there are a few clearance issues to deal with, the efi conversion, and a custom exhaust for the 4afe and 4age, but the major parts bolt up is the same. making it an easier choices than any other engine.

Do you have an 8 bolt tercel flywheel yet? I still have 2 on hand if needed. Are you going FWD or RWD intake manifold?
