Paydirt Auto in Nine Mile River NS.
I settled for a late bigport as a complete unit. Sadly he's gotten rid of a lot of his stuff since I've been there last, only one Tercel left in the lot now.

That is one sun bleached timing cover! Going to be honest, I kinda like the gray...

Do you have a sandblaster to clean up the rusty parts?

looks like that one was installed transvers. that exhaust header may even be usable with modification.

Yeah the gray is an interesting look for the timing cover. I have a home made sand blaster I can use for the parts I need. (Soda bottle + long air blaster)

It came from a 1987 MR2. I'm considering using the header, but I'm not the best at welding cast.

Spent the last couple days taking everything apart, and this 4A-GE is for sure a late bigport.

Turns out the rods that came out also have those integrated oil squirters. Right now I'm on the fence as to which rods I'll use. The GE and FE wrist pins are different lengths and using the FE rods will require me taking them to a shop again to get them fitted, which will cost another 30 bucks.
The big advantage with the FE rods would be weight and availability. These can still be used in a build if someone was missing rods and needed a cheap
alternative.

The other big project I spent a bit of time on yesterday was cleaning up the head and porting it.
For intake porting I only cleaned, knife edged the split, and radiused the curve going to the valve top. I didn't feel the need to go all out for intake porting since bigport heads already have "big ports". For exhaust porting I smoothed everything to a nice finish, radiused the curve to the valve top, and widened the ports to a gasket match.

For now I need to write down a shopping list of everything I need to put the engine back together. The rod bearings, main bearings, and thrust washers came in the mail yesterday.
