I have an old retired 87 4wd Tercel I bought brand new. It has the
manual 5 spd with a "granny gear" extra-low for 4wd only{it has a
lock-out}. I was wondering if there are ANY other engines that bolt
up to this transaxle. Any V6's or V8's? And is there a performance
clutch or a larger diameter clutch available for it? I know it would
likely require bellhousing changes. I never looked into Toyota
performance stuff so I am quite uninformed. All I know is this little
box served me well even after I took it off the road{dead heater core
and blower & notime to repair it back then] It became my mobile
toolbox for a long time as I have 13 acres and 4 horses. It was a
tough little scamp. I'd like to ressurrect it possibly on a kit
platform like a pseudo MG-TD[ota]. Since my drive way is 330' and
very steep I need the 4wd with that awesome little "granny-gear". Any
help or ideas?[
