Hope there's no rust under the bondo around the wheel wells. Is the white stuff primer putty?

Looks like it's pretty much rust free...not much around the 4WD logo on the back hatch.

My wagon had a 3" x 4" hole there.

Yeah it's putty. Only a little bondo was used after new metal was welded in. Check out the new photos. Paint arrived today and is a nice match.

Jetswim, are you expecting good results if you're painting it yourself? I hope you're a good painter, because you have the start of something sweet there! The tailgate under the 4WD sign is great!

I spent the afternoon under my car today, scraping and grinding and rust painting the frame and stuff at the back of the car. Very crappy work, on your back in the cold with paint slopping everywhere, but it should be some nice anti-rust insurance, I hope.

More pics when ya can please!

Looks like you are doing it right. Better than I've ever managed.

Better do some chipping inside those rear wheel wells...and fill the seam at the top of the wheel wells with roof goop??

I've used the alum/plastic/tar/rubber roofing tape they sell at hardware stores inside the wheel wells...holds real well if put on right. Writeup in the Repair section.

Generally am not fond of red...but that burgundy is not too bad.

I'll check the tires Simon. Metal sanded down around wheel wells and ready for primer.

Nice work on the wheelwells. That's exactly the stuff I can't do. Just make sure you put lots of rustproofing oil on from the inside after all that welding.

They are masked over. As soon as he pulls the tape off, they'll be black again.

Very nice work BTW jetswim! It's a lot of work to paint such a fancy color with metallic and pearl etc. in it. Looks like its comming together well though.
