164K - working AC - looks really clean, but - $7K as a BIN?

Lots of very good pix.

Of course, some of the comments are the usual J-tin haters...

Looks really neat. I'm finding that in Australia at least there are so many more AE95 corolla all-tracs than Tercel 4wds running around still. In Japan there were even some 2 litre diesel 5speed sedans such as this one Imagehttps://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set ... a790376596 (you don't need a facebook account to look at this album). Indeed there is quite a community (most of them into modding the cars) on facebook. https://www.facebook.com/Corolla.Ae95.4wd/

matt, despite my dislike for engine swaps i have been tempted to find one of the E90 diesel engines to swap into my ae95...then i remembered how much work it would be, and how much tweeking would be required just to get it to run right...nahhh.

i can still dream though.

the all trac in the ebay link links very clean but certainly not $7000 clean.

nuts. I had a near perfect '88 that looked identical, it had a lot of miles on it, but also lots of new parts (including a clutch, rebuilt head, new rings, seals, and bearings). I could not get $2000 for it, I sold it to a neighbor for $1700 (who is still driving it 5 years later).

I could have gotten $3000 for a Tercel4wd in the same condition. For some reason the Corolla all-tracs just are not as popular as the Tercel4wd.

Its strange how underrated these cars are compared to the Tercel 4wd. The corolla has a lot more power and is a lot quieter on the road with similar economy and space inside. Although harder to work on. Many parts including more powerful engines from other Toyotas are a simple bolt in affair.

I really like the All-Trac, been looking for one for years, unfortunately, the only cars that have become available in my area had too many miles and trashed interiors/exteriors. The idea of fuel injection and a bit more comfort really appeals for road trips.

i agree, matt. it makes me sad that the ae95 forum is such a POS because i think ae95's are also worthy of a strong cult following. i can see why the tercel is so much more popular -- older, cheaper, funkier 80's design -- so i hope that in 5 or 10 years when the nostalgia for the early 90's era of car design is stronger, the ae95 will catch up in popularity. but i really don't think it will. oh well.

Are there even as many AE95's around as there were Tercels? For every 20 Tercels I see in the wild, I see one All Trac Corolla.

When the Alltrac came out Japan was at the height of its economic bubble. Toyota was quite an innovative company then. MR2, Supra, egg shaped Previa amongst others. At one stage the land of the imperial palace in Tokyo was worth more than all of California. And then around 1989 the bubble burst. I think the Alltrac was way to expensive due to the exchange rate and Toyota lost its way with innovation and became the mostly conservative company we know now.

I sadly never see Tercels around anymore. Heaps of Corolla all tracs around.. you can buy nice ones for $500 upwards. My mate has four.

Wow, I'm jealous. Around here Tercel 4WD's turn up from time to time, but most of them have been abused and you'd be hard pressed to find one with less than 200,000 miles on the clock. I think the locals here were buying Subarus by the time the All-trac came around. I think economy and availability have made Subaru a 'go-to' for the locals. Last All-trac I saw for sale here was about 5 years ago, it had been used as a company car for a janitorial company, had 300,00 miles on it, and they were asking $3,000.

I have had trouble getting some parts for my alltrac (namely a rare replacement factory steel sunroof) but this JDM private import became available the other side of australia recently and the guy said he good package and send me the parts I need which is lucky as I was going to get one made up out of fibreglass.
