Power=more? lol. It is quoted by Chilton's as such
Torque (Ft/lb) Horsepower
3AC- 75@2800 RPM 62@5200 RPM
4AC- 85@2800 RPM 70@4800 RPM
Well check that out... The 4AC really would be a better match to our 4wd... Lower RPM for more HP, same low RPM for more torque... Heh. Just for kicks, here's the 16 valve 4AGE
4AGE- 97@4800 RPM 112@6600 RPM
Lol. Doesn't hit its torque peak (only 12 over the 4AC) till the RPM where the AC's hit their HP peak. In other words, the 16valve would not work so hot for our 4wd. The 20v on the other hand....
4AGE (Sil) - 119.34@5400 RPM 160@ 7400 RPM
That Silvertop quote off of <a href='http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/7177 ... gines.html' target='_blank'>http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/7177 ... es.html</a>
So almost double the torque at about double the RPM from 3AC to Sil 4AGE. Over twice the HP at a about half again the RPM's.
I'd really have to overlay a dyno graph for either engine on the same dyno, same day, same conditions, to see how they compare for low-end torque. My earlier comparison was based on a graph from another source, without a graph for the 3AC, just those Chilton numbers.
If I can get $30 by the 1st of October, I'll try to throw my baby on the dyno. Lol. I can just see me dancing around as I hit 63 horses and all the diesels around me just staring at me like I'm on crack. lol.
In my opinion, a 4AC would be a good improvement on a 3AC, ESPECIALLY considering that there is a little of an aftermarket following for them, as some were employed in the RWD Corolla. Along with the ability to fit 4AGE parts in some places. If you could maintain its low-RPM torque ability, then all the more power to you.
There I go, getting carried away...
