Are you sure? All the wiring is factory, no extra wiring harness installed or spliced in. The wires for the unit come right out of the wrapped up Tercel OEM wiring harness. They would have had to untape the whole harness in order to run the wires from the engine bay to the dash unit. Everything is very clean and uses original parts. Even the Tercel's trip meter reset button is built into this unit.

Yup, my thoughts:

Cruise was not an option in 84, it was not available until 1986
The white on black text was not a style used in the tercel
Factory cruise also had factory adjustable intermittent wipers, all the cruise controls were on the wiper stalk
I have a factory cruise hood from an 86 and it used a giant CRUISE button right below the defroster button to turn the whole thing on and off

It was probably dealer installed, but not factory installed. Labor was much cheaper back then! There's also a chance that the wires to make cruise work were in the harness all along because of JDM and such.

Fascinating! So it's something you could have done after the dealership receives your car, like when you add the 3M Protection Film, spray-on truck bed liner, and "seat protection" spray (aka just Scotch Guard) added to your brand new car today. How cool.

(LOL, hubby is going outside to go check this out... he's extremely sure it's factory.)

Yeah, dealers would often add stuff to make more money on their end, and my dad remembers shops that would do nothing but add cruise control and alarm systems and radios.

It can't be factory though, because it wasn't a factory option for two more years! It could be all toyota parts, from say the Corolla or Camry or Cressida that were shoehorned into the tercel, but it wasn't done at the factory, for sure. It doesn't even match how the cruise looked coming from the factory.

For example, the 85 FSM we have on the site has nothing about cruise control, but the 88 FSM does.

Dealer-installed aftermarket cruise is pretty cool. And the fact that it's so clean and well-done, it's really good work. Sure had me fooled! :-)

The replacement of the cover for the trip button is outstanding!

Strange...my 85 has it. I think it became an option with the 2nd gen of the wagons. The 85-88s.

What is your manufacturing date?

Maybe you have a late 85?

That's a very late 85 model then, one of the last, you practically have an 86!

The it mounts over the radio. Those are the radio side mounts on it.
Did anyone ever take you up on your offer, Petros? Do you still have the factory cup holder?

I did something similar with a 2wd corolla cup holder that I installed in my 4wd corolla wagon. The metal frames have a variety of holes so I was able to make it work and look stock with a little effort. If you go here

http://forum.alltracwagon.com/cgi-bin/f ... 6529/s-15/

and scroll down to the pics you will see what I did to make it work. You might need to do something similar to make a 2wd tercel cup holder work in a 4wd. Then again, I think some the automatics came with cup holders. Anyway!
