PCV valve?

Positive
Crankcase
Ventilation

its the plastic 'thing' on top of the valve cover going into the air cleaner.

hope that helps.

It's known as the air cleaner, or the air filter.

I have one for an 85 4wd, if it'd work on yours.

The air filter housings on the FWD and 4WD are the same. The differences are in the Calif., Fed. and Canada cars. It has to do with the type of Air Suction valve and whether it has one or not.

will the whole air cleaner thing make the car, how do i say this...stumble and about 1/2 throttle. It does it both ways, from below 1/2 throttle, and coming down from more than 1/2 throttle. i've been thinking carb, but i read its self-adjusting.
make any sense?

btw i took it down a 4-wheeler trail. i'm impressed with it running as it does.

No, it wouldn't. I assume the filter element is clean.

I don't know about self-adjusting carburetors, but on cars as old as these Tercels are, many of the carbs are worn out. Most can be rebuilt fairly easily, although some will need the throttle shafts rebushed. However, your problem could also be an issue with the ignition.
