Re: Terc delight
Thanks for all the help guys. I found a few article that mentioned the topic but no pictures.
I went on Craigslist and found an awesome futon....never thought I would be picking up a used mattress off of Craigslist. But it wasn't soiled or anything. I took the cover off and washed it. It fits great back there. I have the wood/materials to make the platform, just got to do it now.
Maybe someone can help me here, I noticed an abnormal amount of play in my power rack, and it doesn't look like the tie rods. I'm a little unfamiliar with what goes on behind the boots on the rack. Im used to gear boxes. I did a google search on the general idea. I guess I can replace the ends that connect to the rack?

Re: Terc delight
yeah, the manual calls the inner joint the "rack ends." they simply unthread from the tie rods. to remove them from the rack, you must move the boot out of the way, use a hammer and punch to deform the locking washer, and then use a large narrow wrench to unthread them from the rack. i ground down the tips of one of my large crescent wrenches so that it would fit on the flats of the rack end and that worked well.

Re: Terc delight
Thanks dlb. I've got a shopping cart going on rock auto for those joints and new tie rods..and maybe one ball joint. Ones you've get the sockets loose, can you pretty much finish them by hand?

Re: Terc delight
yes, once you initially break the inner tie rod (aka rack end) free from the rack they thread out easily.
you'll have to check and adjust your toe in afterwards. keith has a great guide for doing this at home. i've used his technique several times, super easy and works great.

Re: Terc delight
WoW dlb! you're a big help. That write up shares a way better idea than what I did the last time i adjusted my toe in toe out. I found the center of the treat surface of both tires and then measured the distance from the fronts and backs of the tires from the centers. I don't think I did to good of a job at it though. hah.
I like this 2x4 idea way better.
I'll be ordering tie rods and rack ends pretty soon, maybe on pay day...if I don't have to put it into the jeep.
I finished the exhaust today this marks the first time in my vehicle history that I have ever had a complete exhaust system. I had to shorten the tail pipe 4" to fit the catalytic converter. I think the tail pipe came from a model that did not use a cat, thus longer. I only had to make two cuts and a weld. I'd say not bad.
Here's some shots.

I've got about two fingers between the cat and body :/ but it actually tucks up nicely. Looks like I lost a couple of the rubber donuts towing it home. whoooops.
Hey! anyone ever thought of making a control arm drop bracket? when lifting the vehicle the control arms become steeper, and then when you drop the sub-frame to accommodate for cv angles, it forces the sway bar ends together. I think a control arm drop bracket would make things a little smoother under there. I don't want to lift the car more than two inches though, so this might be over kill.
here's one on a cherokee.

Re: Terc delight
someone posted pics on here a while ago about their winch. i think it was tercel_jon but i'm not sure. anyway, they mounted it on the front bumper but when they used it, it would up ripping the whole bumper off. i can't remember if that bumper was stock or not. anyone else know where that thread is?

Re: Terc delight
One of my cars has the snow plow brackets welded to the frame the bumper itself is useless.
If you have some good welding skills you can fab up an entire new bumper.
Kinda like this one just not as large.

Re: Terc delight
My plan for the bumper is to keep it looking stock. I figure I will make a bracket that includes the bumper to unit body tie ins, and then extends even further into the engine bay, almost to where you see the bolts that hold on the engine cross member. Then take both brackets and bend them perpendicular to the top mounting surface of the unit body frame rails. then weld in .120 wall 2x6 box tubing between both brackets and then mount the winch to that. the original bumper (both foam and metal) will have to be cut into to make room for the 2x6 box tubing. I'll make some sketches.
Sad to say, cylinder one is not firing, even at different RPMs. so i'll be looking into that. even before the new motor, the car didn't fire on cylinder one.
has spark, not sure about fuel? is this somehow TVSV related?

Re: Terc delight
I would swap out the distributor to see if that's your problem.
You can borrow one from me to check it out.
