Iv also heard jokes about the "coming soon" wagon version called the WeGo... MPGs are somewhat un impressive...normally about 30, but varies between 25 & 35 with things like city/highway & AC use...i credit it also to not having the alignment just right and the exhaust system being less-than optimal (cat disintegrated and emptied itself into muffler.. 1 1/4" original exhaust system..) The Yugo was always a 4 cylinder, the older carbed interference type that earned the car the bad reputation was 1.1l, the newer 1.3 EFI, non-interference version is what i have. those were the only 2 engines available, the 1.5l from a Fiat X19 will bolt into it and is a popular performance mod...The only 3 cylinder engine in a car in America that im aware of was the Subaru Justy.

the early suzuki swift/geo metros also came with an all aluminum 3 cylinder engine, they are great engines and popular for single seat home built aircraft covnersions. It does not speak much to the quality when an engine swap with a fiat is considered an upgrade in reliability and performance.

Yugo is basically all Fiat. its based on the Fiat 128, and the driveline is all fiat. only the body was actually made by Zastava under license, and is only slightly modified from the original 128. Everything appears to be pretty hefty as far as the drive line components...the engine takes 20w50 oil, and has fairly large internal parts for what it is...the trans is quite heavy and has large gears in it. More interesting trivia, the new Fiat 500 is actually made in the old Yugo factory in what is now Serbia. The 500 is effectively the new Yugo...even more interesting, the new Dodge dart i believe is also related to both cars and shares some of the engines with the 500...so there may be a couple engines interchangeable with all 3 cars, including a euro market diesel.
