reviving this old thread because i am in the middle of fixing/replacing the stereo and speakers in my project car and found that the stock rear speaker size is 4", just like up front. this is honestly the stupidest speaker setup around since all it gets you is high end--no mids, no bass. i picked up a set of 5.25" speakers that i might be able to make work in the back but i would prefer to go with 6.5" to get a bit more mids. not bothering with a sub in this POS.

I'm looking at doing the same, my car still has the original Toyota speakers.. one of the rears just blew the other day.. not bad for speakers made in 87

I can't really justify putting in a state of the art sound system in my car, so I'll be going with these

4"

just noticed this while messing around in the back of the project car. the wings/shelves in the back appear to fit EITHER 4" or 6.5" speakers. i found that the tray that the 4" speakers sat in could be popped out, exposing a bigger speaker hole and multiple mounting holes.

here it is with the 4" speaker tray:

and here it is with the 4" speaker tray removed:

i didn't have any spare 6.5" speakers sitting around but i measured and compared the mounting holes with the 6.5"s in the back of my car and they appear to match. if i find some cheap ones i'll try throwing them in.
