Hah! up and running again. and it has never ran better.

I do not know if the combustion chamber grooves helped, or if scraping off all of the carbon from the cumbustion chambers and piston tops did it, but it seems much smoother running now. The ping is noticably reduced, I can pull from only 1500 rpms with out noticable ping, before it was 2500 rpm or above to avoid noticable ping. This is on cheap regular gas too.

Sorry I did not get any pics, I was intent on getting it back together. But there is nothing special about what I did and it add a lot of time to "photo document" the procedure. The only thing did did different was I put a groove with a small round file oposite the spark plug into the "squish" area there, and three short small ones on the side of the spark plug. They all "point" at the spark plug tip location. My combustion chamber is more "bath tub" shaped since I removed the extra metal between the valves oposite the spark plug to increase the chamber volume to get the CR below 11 to 1.

The idea of the comustion chamber grooves is explained here:

Some pics of them are here, mine looks almost exactly like the notches on the 18th pic down (right before the pic of the black VW rabit, and two after the white '68 camero dragster), excep I have three notches on the spark plug side:

If I learn anything new I post again. But so far so good.
