My Tercel wont start

Gottolovmm suggested the same thing I'm staring at them now and they all still seem to be in the right order

Yeah my dizzy is labeled for that and then unless they put the motor in backwards JKLOL

Is there a chance it could be the external voltage regulator causing the car to not have enough spark to start

I have gone and checked all power and ground connections. Those are all nice and clean and tidy

Just for grins, take the dizzy out, turn it 180, and put it back in.

this seems to be a most common problem lately
making sure the timing belt is right
making sure the #1 piston is on top of compression stroke
making sure the distributor is set right
more work is involved doing it the following way but lot less chance for error
1. timing marks lined up correct (easy to check with top front belt cover removed)
2. #1 piston on top of compression stroke (remove valve cover and make sure #1 cylinder cam lobes are pointing down)
only now can you install distributor
3. Distributor installed correct ( remove dist cap and install dist. so rotor is pointing in north west direction )
note: if its pointing south east it is 180 degrees out

If you can take the battery out and get it fully charged up somewhere, do that. Then do a full compression test. If the distributor is installed per the link above, then I would look at the carburetor. Do you smell fuel with the air filter off and cranking? If the needle is leaking, it will pump so much gas into the engine that it cannot start. I have seen this happen before back in the days of carburetors. Back in the 60's it was really one of the most common reasons that carbs got rebuilt.

I do smell feel when I try to start it

i'm pretty sure the car i had to compression start on the big hill was because of massive carb flooding

what would a compression test tell you? if there was no compression because of catastrophic failure, it will not crank normal, most likely making "bad" noises (like "crunch, crunch") or it would be free spinning without compression. even with low or uneven compression it should still start. that will not help you get it started now, do not waste time on a compression test unless there is some indication that there is a serous mechanical problem.

So again I checked TDC verified it using flashlight on number 1 piston check that the timing marks matched on the upper crank went to dizzy made sure that was in correct and pointed to 1030. Plugs wires are in the correct place voltage regulator brand new today fluids in vehicle good filters air and oil good. turn the key and all the motor did with spin. I must be missing something simple but can't figure out exactly what it is.

And when I turn the key I do smell gasoline so I know the pump is working because I did check that too

How do you know it's not free spinning? I can't here it spinning from here.

It takes four things for an engine to run, spark, compression, correct f/a mix, and timing.

It might be flooded then. Do you see gas sitting in the intake manifold if you open the throttle and look down with a flashlight?

I do see gas when I pump it upon further inspection I looked into the relays and I found this one could this be the problem and is there a different replacement for it
