just capped it off. I don't think I'll need it anyways. I'll try to hunt down a tsvs. and that should cur the rest of my rough running issues. now clarify something for me. if I just cap off the aap vacuum lines, it will no longer leak fuel when it's not supposed to? or is it more involved?

you are correct, disconnecting and plugging the AAP and the port on the TVSV that goes to it will prevent the AAP from leaking and the TVSV port from becoming a vac leak. disabling the AAP will only make the car a little more sluggish than usual on cold acceleration. no big deal.

man! took it for a drive to grab dinner. and holy crap! way better response and much more power. still hesitates when i floor it though. but it could be the tvsv i suppose. also haven't changed the cap and rotor and all that nonsense yet either. thanks for all the help guys. been studying this manual every chance i get. knowledge is power

so today I cleaned oil out of the air cleaner and deleted the hai and hic systems and cleaned up the aap delete that I did. it seems to be running much smoother. had to back off the choke and idle because it was idling much higher since cleaning everything up. I'm assuming it was revving higher because it's running more efficient and actually getting air. I'll be test driving in the morning.

If you have oil in the air cleaner, presuming the Postive crankcase vent system is conneced properly, you should try intalling a new PVC valve. It is a generic part that does not cost much and all auto parts stores have them. Or take yours out and soak it in solvent like paint thinner or carb cleaner, blow it out and shake it. If you can hear the plunger jiggle up and down when you shake it, it is likely good to reuse.

If after you clean or replace the PVC valve and you still get motor oil blowing up into the air filter housing, it is likely you have a lot of blow by because of very worn engine rings. the only fix than is to rebuild the engine and replace the rings. I temporarily ran the hose that went from the valve cover to the air cleaner into an old oil jug and collected the oil in it rather than blowing it into the air cleaner assembly.

so today I did the valve cover gasket and painted the vc while I had it apart. then took it to some trails to play and man is it impressive! shocks for the rear come in tomorrow.

I replaced a pcv valve on an engine I had rebuilt, only to discover wicked oil consumption. I put an old one in and it solved the problem. Don't depend on new.

I think the pcv valve is fine. I think the rings are just wore out. compression was in the 90s across the board

only 90 PSI? You have heavy blow by. try "Restore" as an interim measure, works best if you put it in the oil before a long drive.

yeah when i changed the oil the other day i put some restore in it. seems to be getting better everyday. today she got a full mandrel bent 2" catless exhaust from the manifold back with a turbo muffler and shiny chrome tip. the muffler fell off yesterday and the cat was so clogged it was almost funny. and also found out that the egr pipe that ran to it wasn't even hooked up. so that why it sounded so horrible. The air shocks I ordered got installed and fit like a glove. so now you all now if you want more adjust ability in the rear, what shocks to get. anywhere from 25-200psi adjustable and fit like they were made for it. also the air cleaner got a fresh coat of paint today.

also i am very surprised at how well she is running and how peppy she is for the compression numbers that i had....

could your compression tester be faulty? maybe you could borrow one from a friend to verify your initial #s. remember that during testing, the engine should be warm, battery fully charged, all spark plugs removed, throttle wide open, and you should crank the engine the same amount of times for each cylinder. i usually do 8 cranks, personally.

you should post some pics of your bad boy.

you know what! it just came to me! i did the test cold! bwahahahaha! so compression is probably fine. here is the link i posted earlier for the shocks. they install just like factory but you have to drill out the metal sleeve that comes inside the lower bushing and run the air lines to wherever. and dont let the diameter of the shocks scare you. THEY DO FIT!!! just barely.... but they do. maybe today ill go snap a bunch of pictures of the car so far.

the rear shocks are just filled to 80psi out of the 220psi that they max at. and it rides really well even at that height. much more firm.

what colour is that VC? it looks purple, or dare i say, plum. i love it.

the 83/84's are my fave. i prefer the lower gearing, love the inclinometer, and think the raised 'toyota' on the VC is really cool too.
