I've sometimes thought of swapping an engine into the old Tercels, but in my case a diesel running on vegetable oil (how hippie is that?). The trickiest part of marrying an engine to the auto trans for me would be figuring out the throttle lever linkage to the trans to allow it to shift properly. I'd also be very paranoid about the A55F trans's splined couplings being able to withstand the torque. I've had mine apart (when one of these splined couplings stripped) and I'm surprised how flimsy they look. I also wondered what sort of power the torque converter can efficiently handle before you get slippage or fin damage, not to mention overheating.
