auto tranny slipping in 3rd gear
Re: auto tranny slipping in 3rd gear
Nothing against putting some money into an auto. They just don't suit my particular driving style. I'v had a few crap out (mostly ford, vw, nissan), and i never felt compelled to invest too much money into them. This car though is inspiring my wife to finally start driving on her own, which is a big accomplishment for her.

I think you will find these babies ain't Ford VW nor Nissan...these tercels -4WD and like mine the 2WDs are wonderful cars that can run half fixed if necessary. I literally kept my '84 running with duct tape over the various boots for two years until I could afford new ones..ran my catalytic convertor 150K miles past the Cat's lifetime-- finally put on a new cat this month or last and my mpgs shot up from 15 mpg to 37...mpgs at 309K miles.

So according to the transmission shop, something grenaded in 3rd gear. The damage was fairly extensive, and he had to order new parts.
Havn't heard back on a final price, but it won't be pretty. My guess is ball park of $3000, seeing as the complete overhaul was qouted at $2200.. At least it will have a completely overhauled tranny/transfer case.
I guess im in it for the long run now... Thanks for the input.
