Hi, Evan. I did this one last year without problems. You just swap the differential. You can get a new paper gasket from Toyota, and then you just need the gear oil.
I replaced the rear brake pads at the same time. I was concerned about contaminating the axle bearings, so I removed all of the brake hardware and cleaned the backing plate before pulling out the axles.
Disconnect the drive shaft from the differential (four bolts), and drain the fluid from the differential, but make sure that the filler plug can be loosened first! Then remove the wheels, brake drums and the four backing plate nuts on each side. If you are lucky, the axles will slide right out. I pulled them out about six inches, and put plastic bags over them to keep them clean. Then remove the ten nuts, or was it bolts, holding the differential on.
Installation is the reverse of removal, as they say.
Good luck!
4wd not working right.

Awesome, thanks alot for the info Mikey, I will be doing this today, nice to know what to expect first before tearing into it.
*edit*
Did the swap yesterday, no issues. only issues i can see is what mikey said about junk getting on the bearings, i just made sure i cleaned them up before shoving the axles back in. this site make things so much easier, no guessing required.
