You own an IS200?? Very nice!! Any pictures? We can't get the IS200 in North America; only the IS300.

We are happy to have you here - it's good having an international forum. ;)

If I've taken 190 M/h in a big hill it's because a think that european tercel have au shorter gearbox.
To have this speed, you must accelerat a max in 4th in the hill, and put in 5th. I was at 4800TR/M a 180 (my counter stop a 180). My wife was with my IS200, and she tell my that have mange to go to 190 ( at the lexus counter).  What a noisy car at this speed!   :(   ;)   :o

Hey guy from France.... :D

I tend to be fascinated by this page:

I'm wondering what you think of the translating ability of this software?

I actually took French in college for maybe 1 semester...but I didn't do so well...and it was a long time ago. Don't really speak any other languages...typical for some Americans I guess.

Here is the French translation:

Hé type de France.... :D

Does that make any sense?

Est-ce que cela semble un raisonnable ?

Babelfish rocks! I use it for Japanese sites all the time. You can use it to convert an entire website. :P

I'll put some pisture of my GS430 if you want.

Your traductor is quite good. There's some mistaks but it's good.
and I don't spaek english good enough to critick you traductor.

Even if I have somme verry fast and luxury car, I prefer my tercel to my lexus. I don't know why.
I' have bought it in 1986 and it has only 130 000 Km. I give it to toyota every 10 000km.

I guess my 135 going down hill does take the cake...barely over 100 mph on flat ground...got up to 95 fast but after that it took a little bit to crawl up to that last bit. the 135 was fast because it was downhill and I think it would have gone more if I had had more road (its a 84 sr5)
them: so you're telling me your tercel has 1.5 liters...where as my pepsi has two?

me: yes, can you seat 5 people in your pepsi...and does it have 4WD? oh...my bad

hearing you guys talk about speed i think that weber carb i put on did better than i thought it did. i can hit 65 on the onramp no problem and cruise at 75-80 on 295 in richmond va. with plenty of pedal left...hmmmm now i wish i had tried a top speed before taking the engine out. i know the hp is less than 90 because my cabrio has 90hp and can hit 75mph on the same onramp before merging.

I hit 150mph (on gps, the speedo only goes to 110) and was still climbing. I have a 8550 rpm redline tho!!!!

all hail the 20v!!!

I buried the speedo on my 86 tercel last night going down a slight decline on the highway. The car felt stable and smooth at that speed (for a 4wd vehicle). I didn't look at my tach, but my speed was 180km/h + (110mph+). I feel the car could have gone faster if was on a longer stretch of highway. Pretty impressive for 62hp!!

When cars are shipped to the US, some horsepower always seems to get lost on the way. :(
Are you talking about DIN or SAE HP? That makes a bit of a difference too.

L'auto-journal chronoed it in 1985 at 156kph (97mph) in 4th but just 144kph (89mph) in 5th.

The trans is obviously too tall as the engine even can't reach the max power speed in 4th.

Trans too tall or engine too weak ? ;)

I prefer add 30% of power... :)

The first french Tercel had 70 ISO/CEE/DIN hp at 5600rpm and 110 Nm at 3800rpm with 9.3:1 CR
The last ones had 71 hp and the max torque at 2400rpm with 9.5:1 CR.

No emission control in that years. No EGR, no cat' , no O² sond, no electronic ignition.
The just had to stay under 4,5%CO at idle till 1986 and under 3.5% after that date.

Basic and/but nice to wrench !

I have an '86 that will still do 100mph on the flat. I appreciate that the american spec motors need all sorts of power sapping systems like catalytic converters etc for emmision control. Maybe that's another reason yours are a little slower?
