replace the seal. the FSM shows the depth it needs to be installed, make sure you follow the FSM.
do not remove the rear diff to measure the ratio, just jack it up on one side and mark both drive shaft and wheel with chalk, and count number of turns on rear wheel before drive shaft turns one full rev. With one wheel free to turn only, it will rotate drive shaft twice as fast as with both rear wheels free to rotate the same amount.
