Re: New member from Portland, OR - '86 Tercel Wagon DLX
Found the bolt at my local hardware store. It was a 2" bolt, used two washers and it was a perfect fit. Capped off the lines going to/from the EGR.
I also realized that the carb bolts might've worked their way loose since I didn't bother to check them since the carb install on Saturday. Tightened them down and torqued them, now the dying issues are gone. Seems to be running ok for now.

I'm pretty sure I posted a few some pages back.
But here is a picture that somebody caught of my car at the local car enthusiast meet this past weekend.

So, did a few more things to the car and I finally think I got it running correctly.
Turns out I had some vacuum hoses in the wrong places. So after that and with some carb tuning I think I'm finally running healthy now. Pretty happy about that.

Your last photo looks like it was done by a professional - staging, lighting, angle.
The car looks great - and those vented white steelies just make that body color POP!

Thanks Tom! Might not be for everyone but I am enjoying it so far.
Honestly though the paint is far from perfect, I'm looking into PlastiDip options to change the body color.

The paint looks fanstastic from what pictures I've seen!

There's a lot of oxidation and clear coat failure. Mainly on the hood/roof and on the passenger side doors near the top.

Re: New member from Portland, OR - '86 Tercel Wagon DLX
So after experimenting with the EGR bolt block-off the results weren't good. Got 18 MPG this last tank. I put everything back in so I hope it yields better results.
Also with my climate control I've noticed whether I put it to hot or cold the temperature of air coming out doesn't really change. I looked behind the glovebox and noticed the cable going /from the toggle and it's connected to a white plastic piece but doesn't seem to move much when I switch it from hot to cold?

Re: New member from Portland, OR - '86 Tercel Wagon DLX
that's crazy. blocking off the EGR shouldn't have much, if any, effect on the mpg. what mpg were you getting before, and is this the first tank since your carb rebuild? there are lots of other more likely causes of poor mileage. here's my list of them from the FAQ.
low tire pressure
incorrect wheel alignment
dragging brakes
extra cargo weight
incorrect ignition timing
dirty air filter
worn dizzy rotor
worn dizzy cap
worn out spark plug wires
worn spark plugs
vacuum leaks
incorrect vacuum routing
choke not wide open once warm
ruptured AAP diaphragm
worn out TVSV (directs vacuum to AAP at all heat ranges)

You need to look under the hood to see if the wire cable from your heating controls is opening the little valve to the heater core. If not turn it by hand to the open postion and see if I that pipes the heat to the Inside of car.

Everything has been recently replaced and the tire pressure is good. Last gas mileage was 26 MPG or so.dlb wrote:that's crazy. blocking off the EGR shouldn't have much, if any, effect on the mpg. what mpg were you getting before, and is this the first tank since your carb rebuild? there are lots of other more likely causes of poor mileage. here's my list of them from the FAQ.

I hooked all the EGR back up and I just switched the TVSV valve with another. I have a few spares. Will see what this tank is like. I looked at the valve underneath the hood, seems to be pretty rusted.

So I was working on my brakes the other day and noticed two of my brake lines have hairline cracks in the rubber. Would this cause any vacuum leaks? I'm definitely going to replace them ASAP.

Nope, no vacuum leaks. Just brake fluid if they ever went!

Thanks, just trying to narrow anything down that could cause a vacuum leak.
