ack.. my bad
totally forgot about the color diagrams you have there

sdoan is right.. the "gas filter" takes vacuum directly from the vacuum source and passes it to the TVSV
so it does make perfect sense now why there's no vacuum...
(original vacuum line that comes from the filter is connected to the throttle positioner! :roll: for whatever reason that is)
tmr morning i will try and bypass the "gas filter" and see if it works.

ok... did the changes just now
bypassed the "gas filter" and now vacuum is getting to the TVSV (thx sdoan :D )
the car didn't do it's little hesitation thingy this morning
i'll give it a few days and see how it goes 8)

guess the vacuum lines will have to stay this way till i get a new filter from toughtercel

Since I think the gas filter is an ordinary metric thread - short of getting one from a JY - you might get a threaded plug, drill hole(s) and solder in 2 (or3) tubes for the vac sources - or maybe one hole with a "tee" arrangement - although I think a JY would be a lot easier...this part is not shown on the parts link you supplied.
And - couldn't the broken port just be drilled out and an appropriately-sized tube inserted?
I note that some Canadian vehicles have two filter tubes and some have three...

I note also on the XLNT parts info link you supplied - oddly, save for the EGR info, none of the other emission paraphernalia info is supplied - nor the elusive and mystical ECU system.

yes i have thought about having the "tee" arrangement with the remaining good port on the filter
my vacuum lines i have are not long enough, gotta grab some from lordco

performance wise, only problem i've noticed so far is that the speedometer wobbles at speeds below 50km/h, works fine at speeds above that.
searched online... they say it's the speedo cable dying/drying up
i don't know much about how the speedometer works.. but this only happened after the TVSV became functional..
problem didn't exist when vacuum lines were messed up

gotta go back to reading the manual :P

p.s. yeah, it's a shame they don't have those parts covered... nonetheless, i'm really impressed with their website's user interface

Welcome to the Club!
The TVSV is the Thermostatic Vacuum Switching Valve, which is the short black plastic "tree" on the water outlet at the front of the head - easily broken, but necessary for smooth running of the OE emission/fuel system.

There should be no relationship with the speedo and the TVSV, unless the Canadian version does something very different from any car I have ever seen.

More likely the cable is wearing out and it was a coincidence. You can raise the car and remove the speedo cable housing from the trans end, pull the cable out and lube it real good with light graphite grease or lithium lube. Than reinstall it, keep it out of the dirt! This should eliminate the bouncing. IF not it means cable is worn out and may eventually break, than you can replace it with one from a wrecking yard.

Nope. Your best bet is either a new toyota valve, or try testing junk yard ones. (or get a weber!)

they do show up on ebay, partsgeek.com, perhaps rockauto, everyone once in a while for cheap. might just google the part number and see what comes up.

Been meaning to post this for sometime now-guess this is a good time. A year and a half ago i came up with an alternative to the TVSV. I got an MB vac switchover valve (pn 0015407097) mounted it on the right side innerfender well, hooked up the vac lines from TVSV to it and wired it to an illuminated mini rocker switch which i located in the "dummy" switch filler piece in the inst. cluster hood (below the rear defogger switch.) With a little careful D&D (drill and dremel) work the switch looks real good, and lights up amber in the "cold" mode- kinda like a hand choke. The switch was made by GC electronics- pn 35-662. It's worked real well for me, and i did the same thing to my "new" '87 2wd a/t wagon.

OK- Now it's time for me to explain the pics...

#1- disconnected lines @ TVSV and installed tee.
#2- blurry pic of installed vac valve (screw driver blade pointing to valve.)
#3- pic of switch and modified dummy switch filler.
#4- another view of #3.
#5&6- hood installation.
#7- pic of vacuum valve with numbered ports.

Vacuum lines were connected as follows-
Line from gas filter to port#3
Line from AAP to port #2.
Lines that went to TVSV L&M teed together and connected to port #1.
Just left the line connected to the TVSV J port where it was (vent?)

This setup has worked real well for me on two cars- cheap solution to an expensive ($320) problem.
Found plenty of the switchover valves on early '90's MB's in the boneyard.
