Parts Request for '83 Restoration Project

Post by bryanthompson »

Hey folks.

I'll use this thread to post and request parts that may be available as we develop the restoration going on over in the Gallery section.

As the project continues, I'm certain that I will end up with duplicates and extras, and I'll, in turn, happily share them with you here as well.

Thank you in advance for your help sourcing any of the following:

-air filter
-drive/accessory belts
-coolant reservior
-fuel filter

-spark plugs
-spark plug wires
-front & rear brakes (pads, rotors, drums, shoes)
-all new suspension bushings (sway bar, control arms, etc)
-left & right front drive axles (may be rebuild-able, just need to see what availability is)
-new shocks all around
-front knuckles (possibly rebuild-able as well)
-brake calipers
-timing belt replacement
-radiator (possibly)
-tie rods

So far, with the exception of the coolant reservoir and possibly the knuckles, I've bought everything new locally at just about any auto parts store. The filters (air/oil/fuel) and spark plugs are always in stock even at a generic-type department store (Canadian tire) up here in a relatively small town. I'm pretty sure you'll have no problem finding most of that stuff new locally in a big market like California.

brand new CV axles are available through rock auto. they are made by GSP, and are the only axle you should bother with unless you can find some new old toyota stock. i've bought way too many remanufactured axles only to have them clunk and click even worse than the bad axles i was replacing, so i highly recommend staying away from reman axles.

I would also look at getting replacement springs in the rear as well as shocks. The old ones will be pretty soft after this many years and will make a good difference to handling. I've seen them on the japanese yahoo auction site.

Bryan - do you need the air cleaner housing & snorkel or just the filter? I have both the former items and the latter - or the latter should be available at any parts store.
Check the Part Numbers - OE and Aftermarket Forum for OE bushings - which I'd obtained through Butler Toy in Indy.

great idea, i totally forgot about them. sagging rear ends are a common problem on t4's, i find.

also, you might want to replace the rear axle bearings and seals. it's possible they are still ok now so you could wait on this job and see if they leak or if you have any growling from back there and do them then, but i would not be surprised if they are already toast from sitting for so long.

He needs so much. But that's the adventure.

For styling components, do we have any leads on:

A nice, unmarred set of polyurethane bumpers

Rust-free tail gate
License plate "ATM" bracket

New or newish condition:

4WD grill

Front side marker lamps

Front bumper turn signal lenses

Passenger side tail lamp (have nos for driver side)

4 13 inch alloy wheels in white (not steel)

All side door molding (w SR5 Badging)

Exterior door handles

All window trim around fixed and sliding windows. (Top seals and trim for door glass, etc)

Interior door seals

Steering wheel

A, B, and C pillar covers (not chalky, sun baked)

Center console

Stereo housing

Shift knobs

Rear luggage cover

Sun roof seal interior and exterior
