Removing the rear axles is part of this video start's at minute 3 yours will likely pop out easier.
You will only need to pull both axles out about 6 inches not all the way out.

1) jack up the back of the car and put it on jack stands,
2)remove the wheels,
3) remove the brake drums (parking brake off!),
4) unbolt the backing plate through the axle flange (four 12mm nuts), these hold both the brake backing plate and the axle retainer in place.
5) Than you can pull the axle straight out, they only need to come out about 6", but be careful you do not damage the seal by allowing the axle shaft to rub on them. I hang the end of the axle on a bungy cord to suspend it off the seal.

sometimes you need to use a slide hammer to pull the axles if they have not been removed recently, I have found this is not usually necessary, I pound on the axle flange with a big plastic hammer sideways and outward (as much as the angle will allow) and usually get it to wiggle out.

You do not have to remove the brakes, they just stay in place. And than you can pull the diff assembly/third member out.

while the axles are out you can inspect the axle seal, and roll the wheel bearings with your hands to feel the condition of the wheel bearigns (should be smooth). If you need a seal or wheel bearing, now is the time to replace those too.

PS

I'm a really nice guy

I can vouch for that!
An old buddy of mine told me years ago the attitude at his workplace was "There's never time to do it right, but always time to do it over." Pull the axles and be done with it.
Good luck.
if it aint there, there's a good chance it won't break!

Timing issue resolved driving with plugged dizzy vacuum lines disconnected choke runs great at 900 rpm via stock tach in instrument panel .

Well like a little brat starving for attention she had to sacrifice something ,. And she put forth her only begotten starter.not even two months old .chews em up and spits them out .she is alive and she is pissed ..........at me for some reason .I only spend countless hours and all my spare cash in hopes of no problems no manic episodes no raging fits of powerlessness followed by half hearted attempts of reconciliation. She is a bitch and she knows it.she takes pride in the fact. I'm starting to think a seperaton is the best thing .before some one gets hurt.

Oh I go to that place in my head where I have to tell myself ......no you are not going to ghost ride this car off a very high cliff .or into a wall . That will not fix the car .only make it worse .then I started swearing at the car .now it's mad at me again .
