Can't you see where the leak is coming from? Clean it up really good and put cardboard under it.

to replace input shaft seal is a major undertaking, might consider taking the third member assembly to a specialist (that is very familar with toyota diffs) who can also get the gear lash set properly. the ring and pinion lash is affected if you take out the input shaft, it has to be properly shimmed and torqued correctly or you wreck the rear diff.

OTHO, if you are talking about the gasket that goes around the permitmer of the diff housing that is leaking, that is a much easier repair, permatex will work find. That is the one where you up bolt the 9 or 12 twelve mm nuts from studs on the housing, and remove the third member assembly that holds the ring and pinion gear set. to remove it you have to pull the two half shaft axles, and the drive shaft off the input shaft.

Your saying that to remove the drive line side of the rear diff for gasket replace Ment I have to take out both rear axle shafts?
Because whe nI put the new gasket on this last tIme every thing came out no prob.bit this time it seems as if the yoke pinion side (the part that comes out of rear diff ) doesn't want to come out.almost like it's vacuum locked in there

yes you have to pull both axles to get diff out
if pulling pinion shaft only you do not have to pull axles (pop the seal out too)

you picture shows the diff gasket
the only SEAL would be the pinion shaft seal

to replace the gasket between the diff third member (the diff carrier assembly), and the axle housing, you have to remove the left and right axles to pull out the diff assembly. You must do this to clean the surface on both sides, the axles will hold the assembly in place and you will not be able to get to the gasket surfaces without removing it.

your language is not clear, there is a neoprene seal on the input shaft, and a gasket between the diff third member and the axle housing. What are you talking about, you seem to using these terms interchangeably.

You can replaced the input shaft seal without removing the third member, but I would advise against it since you risk altering the lash between he ring and pinon gears. Just untorquing the large nut that holds the input flange in place risks changing the relationship between the ring and pinion gear. If the seal needs to be replaced, you can try it, but risk trashing your whole diff assembly when the gears eat themselves up (I have seen it happen after a seal change by forum member Synth). OTOH, if you need to replace the gasket between the third member and the axles housing, you can do this without disturbing the relationship between the ring and pinion by pulling the whole assembly as a unit, cleaning the gasket face and either put in a new paper gasket, or use sealant on it (or use both, my preferred method).
