Missing Emissions Jet

Post by Bdeal223 »

So I was looking at the vacuum line diagram last night and noticed this "Jet" that is on the back choke breaker vac line. Well I realized that I do not have one on this car. What is the purpose of this jet and if it is not utilized will it affect how the car runs?

Thanks in advance!

A good deal of carbs have that jet built into the port on the carb, so you're fine.

I think it's just a small orfice or restriction in the vacuum line to delay the vacuum being applied to the choke breaker diaphragm by about a second. This allows a very rich mixture during the first second or so during cold starts. The choke breaker then opens the choke slightly (again, after about a second) to allow more air through. If the choke breaker doesn't open, the engine will quickly stop since the fuel-air mix would be too rich to continue running. If your car starts fine, the choke breaker is working fine and there's no reason to worry about a possible missing "jet" (I don't know why they call it that).

Some carbs don't have the restricted port and need the jet
