Confirm # for fuel sender

Post by JackWagon »

Hi,
I'm looking to replace my fuel sending assembly; the entire unit and I'm not sure I'm interpreting the diagrams correctly.

Is this the correct part number: 83320 19875? I have an '86 FWD DLX wagon with 90k miles

I would prefer to replace the existing unit with a new part instead of rebuilding or repairing.
Thanks

That looks right, I think FWD and 4WD use the same sender but I'm not 100% on that.

I'm not sure you'll be able to get a new part now, but if you do let us know where and how much it was!

The fuel tanks are different between 2WD and 4WD, I would assume the sending units are different too.

What's wrong with the old sending unit? There is a thread here on some very easy fixes for common problems with sending units.

Thank you, I found the thread and have already spent a couple evenings with the sender on my bench. Fuel gauge and low fuel light are operational but the sender is inconsistent even with good connectivity. I had a 1968 Toyota Stout with a bad sender and with this project I'm a little impatient. I think I found a NOS sender that should arrive in a couple days and I will soon know if more attention should be given to the ground wires. Once I receive and install the new sender I'll post up what the part numbers are. Keep in mind, I've got an '86 FWD

It was a NOS listed on eBay several weeks ago and it arrived last week. It came with the replacement gasket and replacement screws. Cost with shipping was about $50 and I have a working fuel gauge!

Looks like the 4wd one... Will pick one up and if it doesn't work it'll be a spare for the fwd wagon.

They're available from someone on eBay.
I can't speak for the lifetime usage of them, but I put one in my Dakar Rally wagon project.

1984 SR5. Lifted offroader with a snorkel. Aka "Thunderbucket"
1985 SR5. Daily driver. Aka "Spud"
1986 SR5. Dakar Rally clone build.
