Post by pordog65 »

:( DO

Hi this is a great sight
I've read up on the other high idle
Post

I'm mechanically impatient..
Just bought this 87 t4 wagon with 3c motor
It had some burnt wires on the harness an the cat was going bad..
Fixed wires
Pulled cat
Starts fast
Sounds better than my 87 2wd same red car
4wd is sr5 very nice cruise.seats.an more..

Anyone have an ideal
I did pull the ( no clue wat all these parts are called)
Electronic thing with the two wires covered with green sleeve out an checked the oring..

Are you saying it stays running at 2500 rpm after it warms up? Choke sticking, fast idle cam may be sticking, throttle positioner adjusted too far and holding the throttle open. Idle stop screw turned in too far. Those are a few things that come to mind.

Please give us more info.

I backed the idle drew an any other screw having to do with the linkage
The chock is open
It goes to 2500 right from start
If I pull various vacuum lines off it will come down

Try tapping the throttle after you start and see if it goes down.

throttle cable too tight??
is the throttle return spring there? intact??? Its on back side of carb abt 1/2 inch diameter and 2 inches long
Love those Tercell 4x4 wagons but they sure suffer from road noise.

When you pulled off the air cleaner , the big black round thing, you had to remove a 1/2 inch rubber hose that connects to the bottom of the air cleaner, this hose if not connected will cause a huge vacume leak, hence the high idle. When working on your car with the air cleaner assembly removed this line Must be pluged with something to prevent this vacume leak. some pix are always helpful. Larry :D

Not long ago I had a guy contact me to repair his t4
The story was he purchased a reman carb installed it himself and now it would not go under 2500 rpm.
Turns out he had installed the steel mounting bracket for vac lines under the carb rather than on top   this caused a HUGE vac leak.
This car is new to you don't have any faith in anything anyone else has done to the car! Use the FSM and go through it step by step I bet you will find your problem

The car I brought home from Washington last year had an idle problem too. We changed the carb with a known good running one and when I had a chance I checked it out and found a tiny piece of silicon or something caught in the secondary throttle plate.. No amount of fiddling with it installed would have brought the idle down.

To much exhaust in the shop.!!

BTW this is the 200$ car from Roseburg cl

I just drove up the ally an bac
123 gears were great no noise
Its down to 12 rpm without the air filter an vacuum on
Motor sounds great too

I think I'll run it a couple more times before I tri to fix anything see what happens

Like one of u said about the piese of plastic in the carb
Mite fix itself by running

I did ask the seller if he did anything under the hood .
He replied no just got it from his son drove from Montana
An around the farm rill it cot fire an then left it sit

I put the carb from my t2 on the sr5 ..runs great now

I'm driving her

Does any one know about these gas gauges
T2 was messed up would go to full then E
Then back up to 1/2 then down from there with the gas

Sr5 is up with full tank then down faster than fuel goes down

Good for you!

the fuel gauge senders get worn and have corrosion that gives intermittent contact, causing the needle to jump around like that. often they can be cleaned if they are not worn through. There is a thread with instructions and pictures to clean the fuel sender contact over in the repair guilds section, it is not too difficult since you do not have to remove the tank to get the sender (you remove a hatch off in the rear cargo area floor and you can access the top of the fuel tank).

good luck.
