not sure what guidance can be given beyond what the FSM says. if you think it needs to be resurfaced, find a shop that still does that (not many do). the specs for the limits should be in the FSM.

I'm not sure this is something that can be done without aid of a machine.

If the drums aren't warped, I usually scuff them up with emery cloth. I also lightly sand the shoes to roughen them up too. Never had a problem. Clean everything up with brakeclean after.

I also do what marlinh suggests, if the surface on the drums are not warped or damaged, I use wet and dry sand paper (220 is good) on both the drum surface and that surface of the new shoes. each time you take a layer of metal off the drums, the more likely you are to warp them. they are only good for one cut, and than they should be replaced. they are not costly to replace, the reason few shops resurface drums anymore.

Thanks guys,
That's what I plan to do. I have knocked, scraped, sanded and Ospho'd the outer portion of the drums and have them looking pretty good. Now would like to spray them with high temp. paint. Will painting them be ok?
Thanks again

I used RustOleum engine spray on mine 6-7 years ago after just wirebrushing them and they still have not rusted. I used an almost camouflage green/brown color, as I didn't want the little Terc drums to be too obvious (as in red or other bright colors).
I've seen some ricers paint their rear drums bright colors and they just scream "Hey, look at me! I'm a wussy little ricer drum!"
