Re: Did the blower motor fry?
they likely just repackage purchased parts from bulk suppliers. I have seen almost identical aftermarket blowers in Tercels by a USA manufacturer, and by Japanese makers, both of these would be good parts. Parts made Taiwan, Korea and Israel are usually pretty good too, not so much Mexico or China.

Re: Did the blower motor fry?
Okay. I can't get the air intake box out. It is in set inside the ac condenser box I think. Am I missing something or does the condenser need to come out?

Re: Did the blower motor fry?
I don't recall removing anything but the blower motor and box it's mounted in.
There must be a screw hiding somewhere.

Re: Did the blower motor fry?
Problem is the whole shindig has to move forward like an inch and a half to clear the top bolt that is sticking out. I'll tackle it again after lunch.

Re: Did the blower motor fry?
there is a 10mm nut above the glove box behind the dash that you can only remove with an open end wrench, make sure that nut is removed, and you wiggle it off the mount (and you have all the other nuts and bolts that hold the housing removed). Than you remove some of the bolts holing the A/c evaporator housing to allow it wiggle in place, and remove the clamp bolt that holds the evaporator housing and blower box together. This should allow you wiggle out the blower box.
the evaporator housing does not have to come out or have any of the hoses disconnected, but after loosening the bolts it will allow it to wiggle enough so you can clear the blower box. As the brits say "easy, peasy"

Re: Did the blower motor fry?
Victory!
Was a pain in the ass to get the box out. Swapped the motor out just fine.
Replaced the foam weather striping that went between the blower box and the dash.
Now the blower fan works better than it ever did and moves more air. Guess it was going out for a while.
Thanks everyone!

Re: Did the blower motor fry?
So the new wagon from Cali just did the same thing.
Driving along, notice a terrible smell then notice a while later that the fan is not blowing anymore.
Can hear the relay clicking. Haven't been able to troubleshoot but it looks like I'm 2/2 on blower motors frying!

Re: Did the blower motor fry?
That's weird, I have never had one fry. Maybe there is a problem with the wiring. I would inspect all the connections to make sure the new one will last.

Re: Did the blower motor fry?
I have never had one go bad either, but I have bought a few with bad blowers and had to replace them. Two for 2 you say? better consider what you are doing differently than everyone else. I wonder if a nest or some dry leaves are in the blower box it if puts extra stress on the motor and burns them out. my daughter killed a whole family of mice in her Suzuki blower, thy decided to build a nest and have babies over the weekend in the squire cage fan. when she used it it on Monday she said it "made a funny sound", I took it out the next day and found the fan's nasty handy work. Fortunately she did not use the fan after hearing the "funny sound", which was the mouse tails whipping around outside the fan slapping the housing. Once I cleaned out the nest and cascaras, it worked normally again. Her blower motor on the '01 Suzuki is remarkable similar to the Tercel (and the honda) blower motor, but much easier to reach.

Re: Did the blower motor fry?
The blower motor on the 84 auto which went out, after replacing it, the fan is stronger than it ever was, and nothing blocking it as far as I can tell.
The 83 SR5 that just went out, it was weaker but still seemed to work fine.
What's similar on both of them is they both sat for many years!

Re: Did the blower motor fry?
Did my usual battery of tests, hooked up the new motor (while it sat on the floor) to the connection for the blower motor, and it spins fine.
I guess sitting too long then getting sent to Dry New Mexico is bad on electric motors!
edit: even stranger, when I connected the stock blower back up before taking it apart to see what direction it spins... it worked fine?
I guess the connection was loose this whole time
