Re: Brown carpet?
It's not to big of a job to pull it out and pressure wash it.

Re: Brown carpet?
it comes clean fairly easy, it is all synthetic and does not usually hold stains. I took mine out after it had been in the back for 25 years, lots of dirt and grease spots. hung it and beat on it to get all of the sand and dirt out, than laid on ground and put laundry detergent on it and scrubed it with a stiff brush and water, let it sit for a while and scrubbed it hard again, than hosed it off and let it dry hanging. looked almost like new, but alas, it needs the same treatment again since I have abused it severely since than.

Re: Brown carpet?
i have had good success putting carpets in the clothes washer. i would get the most of the crap out with degreaser or dish soap and a hose outside, then hit it with stain away or something similar, let it sit for 20 or 30 minutes, and throw it in the wash. repeat as necessary.
i should note that you should remove the underlay before putting it in the wash. i find the underlay useless but if you really want it, you could get some scraps of it from a carpet store for when you reinstall the carpet.
