MR2 oil filter
I have heard that the first gen MR2 oil filter will fit the 3A and is a little larger in size. Is this true or has anyone tried it?

Re: MR2 oil filter
They use the same filter. Both the first gen MR2's and the 3AC engine use the exact same filter and are actually pretty decent size.
One issue I have found is that the BOSCH filter has an anti-drain back valve which unfortunately slows the oil flow down too much in the Terc and causes the oil light to come on. Too low of oil PSI can be catastrophic.
Peace

Re: MR2 oil filter
If you really want a lot of filter area, use the filter from an 80's 5.0 mustang. The ratings are basically the same but the filter is about 4 times the volume. It increases the oil needed for a change to a full gallon, but is worth having the extra capacity in my opinion.

Re: MR2 oil filter
Needs to be the filter for the V8 (5 liter). Although a lot of Fords use that filter, that is an application that I know works.
I have been running that filter since I first got the car. I can't say that it is really needed, but it makes me feel a lot better having a lot more filter area, plus they tend to be the same price or even cheaper than the Tercel filter.

Re: MR2 oil filter
Now that is intersting, many years ago when I worked for an private import repair shop, the owner raced a Pro Rally prepared volvo, and the improved capacity filter for the volvo was also the ford PH8A. spun right on to the side of a volvo block, it was the same for the B18 (that was in my 122s), and the B20 that came in the later Volvos.

Re: MR2 oil filter
I would avoid Fram filters, they're pretty poorly assembled. I've heard of people having the elements disintegrate into their engines.
WIX makes about the best filter on the market, although I've heard good things about the Purolator pure 1

Picked one up to go with my diesel oil change and the thing is huge! It hardly fits down there and won't screw on. Maybe because I have AC?

Re: MR2 oil filter
Hmm the Wix is .2 inches smaller in diameter, that might actually work!

Re: MR2 oil filter
That's possible, I don't have AC so I don't know how that interacts with the oil filter...irowiki wrote:TURTCEL wrote:FRAM filter number for the Ford application is PH8A.
