stereo brackets

Post by hikersteve »

need the offset metal brackets that go in 84 sr5 wagon dash. if anyone has please contact

also wanted to know what toyota vehicles have same brackets. have 87 4runner and 87, 88 toyota 4wd vans and these are all different
will most likely be getting from junkyard since toyota dealer said nogo. so i believe regular tercels would be the same but not sure on any other matches.
thanks steve

welcome to the forum!

these are the metal side brackets that screws into the side of the stereo case, and than screws to the metal support frame in center panel on the dash? All of the second gen Tercel brackets can be made to work, but some of the 2wd have a taller center console that would have to be trimmed to make it fit in the 4wd model. the 2wd one has a smaller tunnel and the center console can be larger on these models, the will also have the optional slide out cup holder (which everyone wishes they have). If you use the metal brackets that has the cup holder you will have to remove the small storage shelf that goes under the radio on the Tecel4wd.

I have seen very similar looking brackets used on other models of cars, including my daughters Suzuki wagon (I installed a new stereo in it for her), but I did not see if it would work in the Tercel.

In my boxes of junk I might have a set of these brackets from a Tercel, where are you located? what do you think they are worth?

i am in penn valley california
i went to a couple stereo shops and toyota dealer they had ones that almost worked but they werent offset enough
they were asking $15 for new (in bag) so i think $20 would be fair, if they are the right ones. where are you located?

In Washington state, about an hour north of Seattle. I see what I can find, I am pretty sure I have some from a Tercel4wd, I have change out several radios and damaged center consols, I keep all the extra parts and replacment radios a box just for those kind of parts on a shelf in my garage, so it should not be too hard to locate.

$20 is a bit high for the brackets alone I think, so I will send them to you for that including the shipping (I will pay for postage). first let me see if I have good set for you. than you can PM me your address off the forum.

I am sure I have that visor bracket as well, that is the gray plastic one that the visor clips into (near the center rear view mirror) to hold it steady? I'll see what I can find, I will through that in too.

stereo brackets (and the cup holders, trays, etc. that go between them) vary from vehicle to vehicle. i have checked a few when looking for cup holders and they all look the same at a distance but up close, you see they are different. it's annoying there isn't more compatibility between similar years of a make of car.

I imagine it had a lot to do with different stock radios over the years?

i've found radios/stereos to be universal in the 80's and early 90's cars i've worked on, so far. the problem is that the dash consoles are laid out differently, or the mounting point in the brackets are different, or the mounting points on the trays and cup holders are different, that kind of stuff.

Oh, you mean the brackets vary between 2nd gen tercel years, or different car models?

oh sorry, i had to re-read my post. that is confusing. i meant between different makes and models of cars. for instance, i thought a lot of interior parts would swap between my 4wd corolla wagon and the corolla gts of the same years but nope, almost entirely different. same thing with the second and third gen tercel interiors. i got some cup holders from a third gen tercel hatchback but had to do some mods to made it work.

I have a set of brackets, from a Tercel4wd, and the cubby shelf that goes under the radio if you want that too. they are mounted on an old factory Toyota AM/FM radio, which I will be happy to sell you too if you need it.

sweet thanks for lookin,petros
yeah that is the clip i was talkin about on the visor
i do want the stock radio, but i think i will hold off on shipping that part. due to shipping cost, and also spend alot of time in washington with my hiking company,
and is actually my native state. we definitely have enchantments and north cascades on our schedule, so maybe i can hook up in the spring for some larger parts.
i would like the storage tray and brackets.
i dont have a pay pal acct or anything like that so ill pm you to figure out pay options and price on parts

as far as the toyota parts matchin thru the 80's im not sure. i have mid 80s 4runner van wagons and those brackets didnt match but they are trucks and kinda a sub gen of the early 80's. found a few celicas and corollas and they didnt match. if anyone knows a definitive on the terc sedans matching with wagons as far as dash parts would like to know that?
thanks everyone for replies and input.
