what is this wire?
what is this wire?
it is a yellow wire with black tracer in the same harness as the alternator. mine had an alligator clip on it going to something.... not sure what, but it came off when i changed the oil filter. hasn't seemed to affect anything anything since. but i dont see any such wire in any of the diagrams... thanks

Re: what is this wire?
mine has an extra wire too, I do not remember the color of it. I assumed it was for the air conditioner, which my car does not have.
At that location, there is the low oil pressure idiot light wire that goes to the sender (on the side of the block next to the alternator), the several wires/connectors for the alternator, and on cars so equipped, an air conditioner. Only a single wire to actuate the a/c clutch (to engage the compressor) is all that would be needed here.
I do not now of anything else that would need a wire over there. all of the cars use the same wire harness so if there was no A/C than you will have an extra wire.

Re: what is this wire?
My ac wagon has this wire with the connector cut off. Sedan has it too. When I was trying to find the ops connector, I was told it was probably for diagnostics.

strange that its not on any of the wiring diagrams either though. i am very experienced in low voltage and reading diagrams and i looked for hours and couldn't find it.
