There is a stamp on this item "TM", does that mean "towards motor" or "??". Trying to figure out which way this clutch is supposed to go back in. It doesn't appear to want to fit in like the one that came out, it seems to want to bolt in backwards.
This according to my transmission guy... anyone experience this unit?
Maybe RockAuto sent the wrong clutch kit?

Re: Beck Arnley Clutch Kit from RockAuto
can you post some pics of your new and old clutches to compare them?
generally, if you look at the profile of a clutch disc, the side that sticks our furthest goes away from the engine since that part would ram up against the flywheel if you tried to put it on that way. the clutch pressure plate on the transmission side has more clearance so the higher profile side of the disc should point towards it.
if it still doesn't fit or looks quite different from your old clutch, check the part # against what is listed on rock auto and other parts sites. i have seen the wrong clutch in the right packaging, but that's pretty rare. also, forum member xirdneh had a weird problem once with a new clutch being out of spec but i can't remember the details. try what i mentioned above first and go from there.

the part that sticks out forces the disc not to contact. see image, the old set and the new set...
any suggestions?

That new clutch kit you have looks like it fits in a stepped flywheel. It certainly looks incorrect, probably boxed wrong.

Re: Beck Arnley Clutch Kit from RockAuto
it looks like the disk is incompatible with the pressure plate assembly. to verify take measurements of dia and thickness of old pressure plate and disk, and compare it with the new one. This unfortunately is not uncommon with some after market suppliers.
That does not surprise me, one of the reason I will not buy beck/arnly parts any more, their quality control has gone in the toilet since they were bought out by some larger conglomerate. Send the whole kit back and get another brand. Call rockauto first and tell them what happened.
that disk will not work in the Tercel, the Pressure plate assembly might be correct (your measurements will tell), but the disk and pressure plate should come in a matched set. From one brand to another there are often slight differances, but never enough so that you could not swap dirks, pressure plate, T/O bearings, etc. IOW, each part should be interchangeable with different brands of the other parts. It does not meet that spec. It was packaged wrong.
Get them to send you another brand, and I would not waste any time with Beck/arnly parts again. It is such a shame, they used to be good. Now they buy other parts and repackage them under their own label, but the often mix them up. I got a box of piston rings with 4 different size rings in it!!! No thanks.

Re: Beck Arnley Clutch Kit from RockAuto
I have had issues with Rock Auto, but still use them because they are mostly good. Once I got a tie rod end that was obviously used! I called them and they immediately sent out a new one. Other times I won't get a small part that should be there, like the top nut on a strut for example. Just bought four Beck-Arnley Tercel fuel filters because they were on closeout for $0.62 apiece! One from Israel and the rest from another country. This was in a big order, so shipping did not kill me, and the whole order was correct.

Re: Beck Arnley Clutch Kit from RockAuto
I buy a lot from Rockauto, I have no complaints. They buy from various suppliers, so they would not know what is in the box they ship. they depend on the supplier to package it correctly, which was beck/arnly in this case. I just have found that b/a has unreliable packaging. I do not know how often it occurs, but I see it offen enough where I will not buy Beck/Arnly anymore, too much trouble for me and the retailer that sold it too me. considering it is not only a delay and a hassle for the customer, but the poor retailer has to deal with the supplier as well, cost them time and money and possibly losing a customer over it.

Re: Beck Arnley Clutch Kit from RockAuto
i have had pretty good luck with Rockauto too
i have never had missing parts
several times i received extra parts ( i do not know what car they are for and i was not charged for them)
the few returns i have made, i got all my money back including shipping

Love those Tercell 4x4 wagons but they sure suffer from road noise.
