Open Letter On RockAuto

Post by ARCHINSTL »

Perhaps I am being a tad snarky, but...
When RockAuto joined the Club back in 2008 or before, I seem to recall that it paid a modest stipend to be listed in the header of each Forum (possibly wrong terms here).
Now it gets a free pass when listing its wares. Why?
I view it as being definitely different than when one of us lists a source, whether a brick and mortar store like AutoZone/Advance/et al or a specific Toy dealer; we do not work for that source.
That RockAuto Jessa is a member is irrelevant; she is an employee of RockAuto.
Many of us have purchased some major dollars from RockAuto, so in my view that is our hook for asking it for even $5 or $10 per month.
Opinions?

don't they have to pay to advertise elsewhere? Or how about a small kick back for each purchase made from members of this site? Like two percent would be a good number, than they can post all they want and it only costs them when we actually buy from them. That would also encourage more purchases of members of this site. I know I buy hundreds of dollars worth of parts from Rockauto each year to fix all our cars, not just my Tercel4wd.

They originally paid $30 every 6 months to be listed under the header. I havent seen money in probably a year and a half. Im fine with deleting all the threads and whatnot. Its up to you guys.

OK - how about this: We all list approximately how much we've spent with RA since it joined in 2008, regardless of the cars involved.
I'm fine with moi sending/calling it about this.
How about last date to weigh in with dollar amounts being 2 February?

Do you Canadian guys partake of RA's services as well? I've forgotten...

Neu - what would be an appropriate monthly amount to ask for? I know that the other car sites I frequent (Miata.net, a HUGE club, Hemmings, BringaTrailer, and Toyota Nation) charge a fee of some kind.
Obviously we are not of their size and could not expect/request/demand similar dollars, but still...

i've never used rockauto. they do ship to canada but the shipping costs outweigh any initial cost savings.

I wouldn't wait if you need the parts - I could just mention "pending $."
