SOLD my 1986 T4 SR5 $1200 Welcome new owner

Post by EliRush »

Hi all, it has been a while since I have posted. I need something larger to haul with, and I have to get rid of my beloved Terc. I have posted here for the repairs I did, and put lots of pics up, too. I want it to go to a good home, and figure I could give everyone here first dibs before I go through the trouble of cleaning it up, taking more pics, and doing CL or ebay. It has been in the snow and mud here, but it cleans up real good.

Is anyone interested? Since these pics I have built a homemade roof rack that looks great. I also tinted the rear windows.

Engine is 3AC with ~150k, body has 322k but is virtually rust free. New windshield, tons of new parts, snow tires, and 3/4 SMD LED lighting (all exterior but turns, most interiors). I also Lucas oiled everything possible, including the tranny.
It will need a new battery, it is cold here in Montana and it goes dead after not driving it for a couple of days. I also busted a fog light lens, but the pair are easily replaced. EVerything else is tight.

Drive it anywhere without issue. Sunroof, too!

I posted some pics on a post titled "Star Valley", and many others. What will you offer me for it? I will also trade it swap even for a pickup truck, and if your truck has a camper top or slide in camper on the back, that would be perfect. I will look at other trades, and extended cabs and 4x4s are a plus. Diesels and V8s are ok.

I dont have net, so I will check in when I can...and it is for sale, so I hope it stays in this category. Thanks! $1200

Ok, guys, I just got an offer for my asking price, $1200. Last chance if anyone wants it. I want to thank everyone for being so friendly and helpful...all of you are a bunch of great people...way better than the IH Scout board. The person I am selling it to doesn't strike me as a forum type, so you may not see it for a while. Take care everybody.

Inform the buyer about this forum if he gets the car. It has proven to be the greatest asset I have found thus far. A lot of great info and good guys here to help even the least mechanically inclined person.

Good luck on the sale EliRush. Hope the Terc is going to a good home. We should have an interview process when selling out Tercs to assure that a jackass isn't buying them with plans of beating the crap out of them

Long live the Terc

Peace

Congrats EliRush. Hope to be hearing from the new owner on the forum. Looks like he got a great car from someone who truly loved his Terc. Best luck on your search for the perfect truck.

The old saying goes, "out with the old, in with the new". Good to hear that you seemed to be pretty particular to where the Terc went, not everyone cares a lot about the cars they sell but this doen't seem to be the case with you. Hope to still see you around the forum helping out with any good advice that you may still be willing to share. A Top Notch Member is not someone that we want to lose.

Thanks Turtcel, I am glad it went to someone who will appreciate it, too. The first guy didn't seem like he cared what it was, and was just looking for super cheap transport...which means he wouldn't care for it proper. I just got the new ride...a Ford 3/4 ton long van...bye bye good gas mileage... :( But boy do I have room now!

And yeah, I do get vehicles and end up 'falling in love' with them. They have to crank on the first key twitch and run smooth or it bothers me. Must be OCD.

good for you. we owned a ford 1-ton passenger van for a couple of years, it was a good work horse, but it is they not the type of vehicle you can fall in love with. It did get remarkably good fuel economy for its size (we got about 12-13 mph hwy, and when full was well worth it), but every time I worked on it I wanted to know what idiot specified the wrong materials, or assembly sequence, etc. to remove the radiator for example you have to remove the grill, oil cooler, A/C condenser and than remove the radiator screws. had they installed the clip nuts the other way it would have been easy to remove the rad from the engine side without touching everything on the front (needless to say, I revered the clip nut installation after I got it out). It is clear to me that the whole thing was designed to get the thing on the show room for the very least amount of production cost as possible, that makes me not trust the manufacture very much since they did not have their customers interest first.

This van seems like a good workhorse...old fleet stock. Nothing in the world can compare with how dreadful those darn VW Vanagon/transporters are. I owned three because of the niche factor, but none of them could go 100 miles without a repair...and one Wes-Fail-Ya went through three engines and still wouldn't go. One engine actually detonated in spectacular fashion. Now there is a vehicle with bad design. I would have a tough time taking one for free...I have flashbacks of those hot, southern summers, bent over the sputtering, hot engine, trying to fix stuff. The later ones have coolant tubes 8 feet long, from front to back...and because the heads were made of two or three different metals, the coolant would act as an electrolyte, creating an electrical charge...corroding the heads and engine parts in days. The VW answer? Special pink coolant that you could only find at the dealership for $23 a gallon. Enh.
I'll stick with an engine with an engine block...and it is also why I stay away from Suby wagons...the T4WD's arch nemesis. Beetle engines were never meant to take coolant. Don't even get me started on the Vanagon electrical systems...or braking systems...
