Re: welcome to the world of 4WD tercels/FAQ
Trans should, but needs a mounting hole for the 4wd shifter. The rear of the body would take major mods to fit the rear axle/suspension though.
Much, much easier to find a 4wd car. Is the 2wd a turd? if so, find a 4wd that needs your engine.

Re: tranny swap
welcome to the list dennis,
There is no reasonable way to make that work if you are looking to may your 2wd Tercel into a 4wd Tercel. You will need to replace the whole floor of the car from the trans back, install the drive shave, rear axle, fuel tank, new exhaust system, new rear inteiror, etc. Lots of welding, lots of body work, lots of parts to buy and install. As noted by splatterdog, much easier to find a fixer with a decent body and rebuild it using the better parts from both cars.
The 2wd and 4wd are only the same from the firewall forward, and even then there are a few differences (struts are longer on the 4wd, bumper at a different height, grill, headlights, etc.)
Let us help you find, inspect and fix up a 4wd TErcel.
