SenSen Chinese Rear Shocks On eBay ?

Post by ARCHINSTL »

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... OTORS:1123
I saw this ad on eBay and sent the following:
Dear apxautoparts,
Hello - the brand of shocks is not stated in the ad - only KYB and Monroe references. What brand are they and where are they made?
Thanks,
Arch

What I received:
Dear Arch,
We use those part numbers mentioned as a cross-reference
SenSen is the brand of shocks/struts that we carry. SenSen has been around since 1985. The carries a lifetime warranty with original receipt. The SenSen product uses NOK seals, which are the same as those used by KYB and Monroe. The product is twin tube in design and nitrogen charged for added durability and performance. The product benchmark in terms of quality and fit and finish is the KYB product. In fact, each SenSen strut and shock is benchmark tested against the corresponding KYB part number. Please join the customers that now enjoy the quality and performance of SenSen on their vehicles. If you would like, please check out the feedback left on Ebay regarding the SenSen product. I would encourage you to give us a try. You will not be disappointed.
Customer Service

Interesting - nowhere does the seller answer my question on country of origin.
They are made in China, per a Google Search.
The price is $45 the pair. I paid $41 (plus shipping) for my genuine KYB GR2s from Rock Auto last year.

Anyone have any experience with SenSen? Just thought I'd bring it to your attention (I obviously don't need them).

When name brand shocks are NLA(like decent reman cv shafts), I'll go with the Chinese parts.

I always try to minimize Chinese part installation on any job. Gets harder every day!

I would guess that much of that sellers positive feedback is from people that equate cheap with good. Unfortunately the real feedback won't be available for a few years. Maybe they are good, maybe not.

Japanese made parts or impostors from China? For me to desire to try a a China alternate it would have to be less than 10% of the genuine article. However, at that price one could be assured that they were junk. So why bother...

Many car makers are having parts made in China now, including GM and many of the Japanese cars too.

Even if they are the same brand as the factory parts however, they could be a lot that is rejected by their main customer if it did not meet spesification. Many of the so-called Canadian discount prescription drugs they sell mail order in the US and elsewhere are lots that the Canadian government rejected, so the manufacturer (usually made in a 3rd world country factory) will try to unload them through mail order websites as "Canadian drugs", but these will not meets minimum standards for dosage, purity, etc. It is likely similar for car parts.
