Tahuya State Forest 18th Dec 2010-
If any one is interested for a last minute trip I'm heading out to Tahuya State Forest tomorrow.
My plan is to leave Tacoma around 9-9:30am and head to the forest, its about an hour west of Tacoma.
Arrive around 10-10:30am and play on the ORV trails for and hour or two. Then I'm off to find some wilderness camping.
I'm not going to do anything too extreme, My Tercel stock with not so great tires.
I do have Chains, 8000lbs come-along, tree savers, hi-lift jack, tow strap, shovel etc.
If anyone is interested drop me a line or maybe Ill just see you there. Look for the orange(ish)red/rusty '83 Tercel.
Happy holidays

Re: Tahuya State Forest 18th Dec 2010
over all it was a blast. see video below.
played around for a bit at Tahuya state forest, then off to the Olympic National forest for some camping. I got a mile away from where i planed on camping and the snow got to thick so I had to back track abit and find a place to camp.
what the video doesn't show is being stuck in the snow for 3 hours in the dark as i winched with the come-along and dug and used the the hi-lift jack and all my firewood to get free. Fun but left me with out dry firewood and to tired to set up a tent so i crashed in the back of the tercel.

Great video. You must be hard core to enjoy camping in those conditions. When I was younger and lived in a big city (Los Angles area), yearned to get out of the city when ever I could any time of the year.
Now I live in the mountains way outside the city, in a comfortable house I built there. So I no longer have the compulsion to want to sleep on the ground in a cold and damp forest, I already live there in a warm and dry house. But I have to use my Tercel4wd daily to get home, espcially when it snows. Should be getting some this week....

not hardcore just stubborn. I live in a medium sized city and was not able to do any camping this year due to work so I decided I had to get away before the end of the year, no matter the conditions.

Thanks for the video!
I have to admit - that was pretty exotic-looking territory for this flatlander. Really beautiful. This is area that I've never experienced. A LOT different than forests in MO, whether in the Ozarks or not - and a lot more beautiful, whether in Winter or Summer, I will (not grudgingly) add.

Re: Tahuya State Forest 18th Dec 2010
I camped around the Olympic once in the summer....a very wet forest....temperate rain forest?
I recently got stuck in a snow drift...might have been 15-20 minutes of hand and shovel digging to get out. 3 hours would have done me in. Ironically...I've never gotten stuck out in the real boonies where it counts...guess I've learned to be careful....cause the mess you make is your own out there. Nice video.
What brand of GPS are you using? At least your road was on the map.

@ Takza, the GPS is a garmin Nuvi 265 wt. It worked fine, most of the roads where on it, but some were not and it doesn't have any features like topo etc.
Ya it was totally my fault for getting myself in a sticky spot but I was prepared to wait it out if necessary.
That said next time I will probably rent a SPOT type emergency device.
