how many bolts do the front upper sturt mounts have?

woudl it be possible to swap the top mount of the strut carrtridge with a newer year(say 97 tercel) for proper fitment? (in the case that the 86 doesnt have 3 mounting bolts.

if anyone knows i would really appreciate it because i got a deal on some struts and i dont want to buy 4 only to find i cant use them on the 86

Yours have 3 bolts each like most of ours, but some European models with the harsh road package had 4 bolts. That's why you see one bolt hole on the strut mounts that isn't used.

i'm not sure if the 91-94 pillow mounts will work (shock being same diameter) but you could always re-drill to mate the fourth hole. As long as the bearing stays in the same position

well if a drill is all i need then i have absolutely no problems with that :D
awesome
will the rear struts fit and be better than the fx 16 gts rear with a somewhat equivalent (kyb gr2s) springs? maybe for temporary uses
or i can just put them on my 97 and buy a front suspension for it and have 2 ncie cars :D
if not thats not a prob

These are for your 97?????

Well, then, why don't you use the shocks, struts and hubs (front and rear) of an AE92 (87-92 Corolla GTS).

You will have many options for shock parts including adjustable pillow mounts, coil over sets and not to mention the biggest bonus...REAR DISC BREAKS!!!

Oh, and what's with the fuzzy dice and the goofy looking kid in your pics???

Something else that might interest you...go to tercel online and do a search for "dragonfly" (if you haven't already). The guy who owns it is a nut case. He dropped a 3rd gen 3sgtte into his '97 terc. Last i heard it was so stupid he couldn't drive it.

Found his car domain site http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/500134

that goofy looking kid is bootsy collins man come on don ttell me you dont know what that is???

P-FUNK!!! george clinton, parliament

"give up the funk"
i got the 2 cd collection
parliament
"tear the roof off" (1974-1980)
good stuff man

but anyways i guess i would just use the front on the 86 and get the corolla rear suspension depending on wether or not i can find it at a junk yard.
unless you or anybody else knows somebody selling that

im saying they came off of a 1993 tercel and they will fit on either my 97 tercel or my 86 tercel so i can use the rear for my 97 tercel
either way its a good deal
kyb gr2s and eibach sportline springs
280 shipped from the other coast i think

Yeah i know. My friend is on BYP's website. VVT-I cliff

He has the turtle green terc with the 20v in it...(now in my car!!! :D )

I'm actually goning to see him in about a week. Will be in miami that is...

I know why BYP takes so long to do work on customers cars. It's because they are doing crap like that!!!

I used to be a member at TO.com but somehow, my membership got deleted and never went back. Didn't get what I was looking for there anyway and i ended up doing everything myself anyways. <_<

The reason i bought the engine off of my friend in miami, was because byp told him it was no good. Now, it works fine for me!!! Also, they did the swap in his car, took 2 mos, and it never really ran. It was at BYP's more than it was on the road!!!

Oh well. I hope it was just my friend that had the problem. :(

I don't know about "European harsh road package" but here in North America the reason for the three studs on the front strut upper mount and the four holes in the body is for initial caster settings. On cars without power steering you leave the rear hole empty. On cars with power steering or with 4WD you leave the front hole empty. Sedans and wagons without power steering have less caster than sedans and wagons (FWD) with power steering and 4WD.

I would rather use the extra hole for this:

Haven't tried ordering it from the dealer yet.

From the drawing that you posted it appears that the 3 stud support and the 4 stud support both have the same reference number. Is that a misprint? Are the part numbers different? Any idea why it wasn't offered in the US? We have some pretty harsh roads here too.

Thanks for the enlightenment. It's great to learn about the nuances of the Tercels in the different areas of the world.

That is just the first half of the part number which indicate what part it is (an upper strut mount). The next 5 digits differentiate one strut mount from another strut mount. It was only in Europe, not even in Japan.
