Just adopted my first 1985 SR5 "Betsy"

Post by twleung »

hi this is "Betsy" previous owner named her for 8 years so im not going to bother to change what works..

im quite happy it drives well but my gf blew a tire when she was trying to learn how to drive her.. and when my gf pointed out another car while in Betsy, she said "why didnt u buy that car instead" (ae92 sr5 :? ) the passenger sun visor broke and almost hit my gf hahaha i guess Betsy loves her new owner but not his gf hahaha

i think the clutch petal feels a lil different after she stalled a total of 8 times while practising how to drive manual... i dont think im gonan let her do that anymore i dont want to spend on Betsy.. at the moment. the stalls happen really quick so im sure its still okay (thanks petros)

previous owner claims she did tons of work on her spent around 5000$+ on everything (engine rebuilt from top down, new exhaust from header back, new clutch new brakes, new fenders, all new wipers etc...)
frankly i kinda of believe her because everything is working surprisingly except for the stock deck which is probably the only thing im keen on fixing in the car. All the other mechanical stuff i will have to learn or get a pro to help me with.

only thing i found that i dont like about Betsy, is her rusts that is covered with a matte green colour. while i was changing the blown tire i used the toyota tools to jack the car and Betsy didnt like it and started to creek and it bent the area that the jack hoisted up.

here are some pictures, from my phone ill take some with my camera tomorrow

sounds like you bought a great Tercel 4wd! :) Make sure you have fun with her and if you don't drive her much, which I know you will drive her more than you know, give her at least 1 day/week warm-up drives around your blocks to stimulate the engine! :) Get your girlfriend into this car and make her a huge fan of it and this car has a fan page on FaceBook, just look up the model of it and 4WD, lol, but you probably already knew that, lol! :D You are from the west coast so I guess you don't have to worry about rust too much, than us East Coast members... But do let us know how this thing is working out for you! :) With the manual tranny, you will have the killa granny gear aka Extra Low to use for extra 4WD pulling power in mud or heavy snow, etc.! :) I hope you enjoy the car as much as we all enjoy our own and I enjoy mine! :) I'm jealous that you have the alloy wheels, lol! :D Take care dude and I hope you are very happy with the car and here to be on this board and welcome! :)

DO NOT put the jack on sheet metal! Use the shock mounts in the rear and if you are real careful the control arm in the front. Looks like pretty minor rust.
