Hey everyone, Tercel MK II is running quite smoothly just working out some small details. I took the drivers side door out to do some work on it, after I reattached it to the car I noticed a new clunk when driving. It happens when I accelerate hard, or brake hard (well hard is not really accurate with this car) I get a sort of resistive clunk/ping (as though its under tension, wandering back and forth)
I am thinking that the A and B pillars actually move a little (flex?) when the car is pushed or pulled from the front axle, does this seem normal? is my noise coming from the hinges or could this be more serious ( there is some play in the door when it is lifted from the rocker area) and the noise doesn't come from the passenger side, (that door doesnt have any play in the vertical axis) Any thoughts on how I can silence this beast?
thanks,
Dave.

Re: Door Clunk ?
It seems that someone made a thread on this some time ago. I believe that he just put a large punch against the bolts of the upper "A" pillar hinge and gave some mighty whacks with a healthy BFH. This, of course, bent that area of the pillar in a bit - but there does not seem to be a way of adjusting these doors.
You might do a Search using "front+door" and similar words.
Let us know your results.
Incidentally - and don't take offense - did you leave a tool inside the door? Ask me how I know...

With most older cars you can adjust the door latch in/out and vertically...i just set them so they support the door some when latched...and so they close evenly with the side of the car.

Re: Door Clunk ?
you need to isolate the location of the clunk. It could also be the window shifting in the tracks, try some wedges in various places around the door, or in the window tracks, and elsewhere to find the source of the clunk.
The tracks can be adjusted, sometimes they wear, sometimes putting too much pressure on a part open window will bend the tracks or the regulator. If the clunk is from the window, pop off the inner panel and bend or adjust the tracks and regulator until it works. Also put dry lube on all the moving parts, and silicone lube in the window tracks, it make it work like new again.
Good luck.
